Design elements[edit]

Is this effectively the same thing as Design elements and principles? It seems like this article is a subset of that larger article. Could someone more artistically inclined than me comment on that? -- Yekrats 12:54, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree with having this article merged with Design elements and principles, as the other article does not apply so much to 2D art as it does 3D. Although, that's just how I interpret it. Zenchi 13:04, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seven Principles?[edit]

I suppose your talking about Art Principals, not Art Elements. "Artists work with and organise Art Elements to make their work." The Art Principals are Pattern, Balance, Contrast, Rhythm/Movement, Variety, Scale, and Composition. Texture[edit]

I have removed "There are eighteen kinds of basic textures, actual, simulated and the invented texture (or Tactile(a sculpture) and visual(a 3D looking picture))." because I wasn't exactly sure what it meant by "18 kinds of texture" - surely texture is texture, i.e. only one? Vandalism[edit]

Some jerk changed the description (the one that appears under the title when you're searching) to read "these are the seven elements people use when they do sex" or something equally immature. History?[edit]

Hope someone can add some information on the history of the concept of the 'seven elements'. Almost all sources online neglect to discuss history at all. A few point to an origin in Arthur Wesley Dow's 1899 book but it only has three elements. Where did the seven come from? I cannot actually find any more information about this which seems quite strange given how widespread the idea of seven elements is in education.
