"British tennis players" category[edit]

I'm reverting Elena's membership of the "British Tennis Players" Category. The reson for this is purely for the convenience of Wikipedia users, and is not intended as part of a debate on her nationality.

The issue is that many people coming to the "British Tennis Players" category would expect to see a list of those players who've played for "Great Britain" in representative events, or who the ITA/ATP/WTA classify as being from "Great Britain", and will find it confusing that important players such as Baltacha or Andy Murray are missing, only to be found by clicking on the "Scottish Tennis Players" sub- category.

This issue has been discussed on the Andy Murray talk page Talk:Andrew Murray (tennis player), and I'm keen to discuss it further, and reach a consensus.

Apologies, this wasn't signed when I put it up a month or so back,RobbieC 13:31, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mother Olga[edit]

Her mother's name is Olga and she competed in the pentathlon in the Olympics. So how come nobody knows her surname? Two Olgas - Olga Rukavishnikova and Olga Kuragina - won pentathlon medals for the Soviet Union in 1980, the same year that Sergey Baltacha won bronze in the soccer. So was it one of those, and if so, which? --83.70.232.68 (talk) 20:42, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

I have changed her nationality from British to Scottish for the simple fact she self identifies as Scottish.--86.167.40.206 (talk) 17:03, 21 September 2009 (UTC) RS 21/09/09[reply]

Reverted the previous change because in the following article Elena is quoted as saying "Yes, I play for the British flag - I definitely play for the Union Jack." The quote was taken from the following article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2003/jan/12/tennis.features JoRoFo (talk) 13:33, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
She is Scottish because she identifies herself as such, and has represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games. If any Scottish sportsperson says they are British, it is only to keep the English happy (if they are good) and gain more sponsorship. If they are Scottish, why not state that on a page like this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.215.1.107 (talk) 04:49, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
there is no such nationality as Scottish — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.21.208.123 (talk) 14:47, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
