July 2017 edits[edit]

Bookworm857158367, there is nothing in the WP:MOS to suggest that says "Different styles are acceptable", so thanks for your recent edit which removed most of the "Nellie" mentions. I think I've caught the rest and edited per MOS:SURNAME, which is clear: "After the initial mention of any name, the person should generally be referred to by surname only" and "Generally speaking, subjects should not be referred to by their given name." This is an article about a four year old child, which makes a last name seem more than a little awkward. Associated Press style would use first names for children under age 16 in articles. But, in any event, style guidelines are guides, not set in stone. Bookworm857158367 (talk) 02:31, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And that's fine in an AP article. This is WP, we have our own style guide. A guide should be followed unless there's a compelling reason not to, and we have nothing about exceptions for age. As you may note, I did indeed "take it to the talk page" - before you, in fact. In any case, thanks for reinstating most of the additional edits I'd made. Seeing as you've reinstated most of the edits I actually made, maybe rein in the tendency to blank revert - you've left in the overlinking, for example, to common words. The article still needs a good copyedit to resolve the issues highlighted at the top of its page. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 13:49, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree with use of last name for a four year old or other young children in Wiki articles, not that there are many who are the subjects of articles. Last name use is not standard in the few I can think of. As I said, guidelines are guides, not set in stone. The compelling reason is that they are about children and it sounds odd. June 2020[edit]

Please supply a citation for Organ being the "patron" of Cork City, and of communicants. The reference which has been removed says, in the first sentence, "unofficial patron". Please do not add unattributed hyperbole such as "mystic and wonderworker". This is supposed to be an encyclopedia article, not a hagiography. The word "wonderworker" appears in exactly zero internet searches, apart from mirrors of this article. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 21:03, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

I've changed the infobox type back to person instead of saint as there is no evidence that she has been made a saint - and several of the citations clearly state that she has not been made a saint - as such it is inappropriate to use infobox:saint for this article. Not yet a saint[edit]

"Despite devotion to her over the years, the Catholic Church has not yet opened a cause for her canonisation"

Ellen Organ is not a saint by definition.
