Hempstead Branch[edit]

Don't think the LIRR's yet determined whether this station will be a Hempstead or Main Line Branch or some sort of hybrid. DonDerham (talk) 20:32, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy over the name and location[edit]

This station has generated quite a lot of controversy and confusion, I am going to use this space to centralize some of the discussion and see what can or should be supported by suitable references and see what can be put into the article, maybe in a trivia section.

This station was built in between the Queens Village and Bellerose station, which are already 1 mile apart (very close for commuter rail stations). This new station makes QV, Elmont, and Bellerose now 0.5 miles apart, making them essentially all walking distance of each other and the closest stations of the entire Long Island Rail Road or likely any commuter rail network.

Despite being called "Elmont-UBS Arena", the station does not effectively serve Elmont as the residential areas south of Hempstead Turnpike and east of Plainfield Avenue are better served by Bellerose, Queens Village, Floral Park, or Stewart Manor stations in terms of walking and driving distance; nor does it serve UBS Arena as it requires a separate shuttle which carries passengers the last 2 miles to the actual arena.
