How did the University get the name Elon? Is it named after the word אילן, or something else?

As a girl's name?[edit]

It is also used in many countries in a feminine sense, as the girl's name "Ilana".

I've come across Elon itself as a girl's name. Indeed, until I looked up Elon Musk just now, the only Elon I'd ever come across had been a girl - albeit pronounced /iˈlɒn/ rather than /ˈiːlɒn/.
