The Telegraph's "endorsement" of Jeremy Corbyn

[edit]

Should The Telegraph be listed in the newspaper endorsement section after it published this article? Even though they only want Corbyn to win so that Labour is 'doomed', it seems as if they do actually want him to win. And The Guardian has published this article about the Telegraph one, which is a secondary source. I didn't want to add it because I wasn't sure whether or not it was an actual endorsement.  Seagull123  Φ  17:22, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And yet, for a newspaper to ‘endorse’ a person, are they not saying they like and fully support that person? Clearly, the old Torygraph neither likes nor supports Jeremy Corbyn and hopes - by 'supporting' him - to undermine the Labour Party. Thankfully, this old Red Scare tactic has backfired, and Jeremy Corbyn is now winning public support. Not the best of weeks for Tony Blair or his neo-cons cronies?
P.S: Was going to call this tactic SOPHISTRY - but means being subtly deceptive.

Opening Statement

[edit]

The opening statement seems a little on the short side. Might it not benefit from some extra text and photos?

@80.44.235.84: Hi, I think the reason the lead section is quite bear is because most people would have read the main article about the election first. And if they haven't they will probably look at it soon. But if you want to add something, please be bold and add it!  Seagull123  Φ  16:36, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Morning Star - bias should be stated

[edit]

Jeremy writes a regular column in the paper so quoting one journo in it that endorses him is not neutral statement of the paper`s position. That he writes for the paper should be stated. The Guardian also has different journos that endorse different candidates - not a paper per se line. Maybe endorsement should only be there when a paper says "the name os paper" or the Editor in Chief writes in the editorial. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.190.64.19 (talk) 04:00, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Affiliated Trade Unions - statistics

[edit]

The statistics that have been added need to be revised and referenced. Yvette Cooper is endorsed by Community and the NUM. These two combined have less than 32,000 members. This doesn't even amount to 3% of Unite's membership. Yet her union endorsements were listed as over 16%. (Garageland66 (talk) 08:49, 20 August 2015 (UTC))[reply]

  • I've taken the membership figures from the TUC website and reached a total of 4,118,844 members. The percentage of all members of unions that are endorsing a particular candidate is the percentage of that total figure. (However it, perhaps, should be added that this probably has minimal impact on how individual trade unionists choose to vote). (Garageland66 (talk) 12:46, 20 August 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Gordon Brown votes for Yvette Cooper

[edit]

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34043557?SThisFB - does this count as an endorsement? Cantab12 (talk) 19:45, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's been added now. Thanks! AusLondonder (talk) 09:29, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bernie Sanders

[edit]

In the video provided, Sanders says he is aware of Jeremy Corbyn and says people are tired of establishment politicians, but doesn't explicitly endorse Corbyn. I'll leave it to be discussed but I don't think he qualifies. Cooltrainer Hugh (talk) 13:07, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you may be right there! What Bernie says heavily implies an endorsement, as he acknowledges the parallels between his and Corbyn's campaign and the reactions to them. However, you're correct in that he doesn't specifically state, "I support Corbyn"... Willwal (talk) 15:10, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hamas

[edit]

User:Absolutelypuremilk, Could you tell me why you believe Hamas have "endorsed" Jeremy Corbyn? What statement have they made endorsing him? AusLondonder (talk) 09:03, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • As per the reference "Hamas has hailed Jeremy Corbyn for his "sympathetic" stance on the Israel-Palestinian conflict after learning that he is front-runner to become the next Labour leader" and in the third paragraph "Their endorsement follows widespread criticism of Mr Corbyn..." (where their refers to Hamas) Absolutelypuremilk (talk) 09:54, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So The Telegraph, with its anti-Corbyn, pro-Tory bias has interpreted this, without evidence, as an endorsement? AusLondonder (talk) 10:36, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Full text: "I find that he has very good sympathy and support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian struggle and he is frankly against the occupation, against the racist policy of Israel, against settlements," said Ghazi Hamad, Hamas' deputy foreign minister, who admitted that he had never met Mr Corbyn but was judging him by his speeches and media reports.

"According to his statements, I feel that he could be very close to the Palestinians, the Arabs and to the Muslims. He supports all the right things in the world regarding freedom, justice, dignity, the right of people under occupation to get their national rights. We expect Mr Corbyn to change the policy ... Hamas is not a terrorist organisation." That seems a pretty clear endorsement to me, and whether you believe the Telegraph is biased is irrelevant, it is a reliable, mainstream source Absolutelypuremilk (talk) 11:13, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
