Untitled[edit]

If I remember correctly my Uncle Bill Gee told me, there several reasons why the hotel was torn down the least of which was all of the window weights were made of lead, and they were sold for the war effort. Another main reason was because the Quarkers did build it, it never had a Bar in it, and it wasn't ever really designed for one. This was a big part of it's undoing. In contrast the Balwin had at least 2 bars that I remember plus the large dinning room, so people could consume massive quanities of adult beverages. If you stayed at the Engleside, then father would leave the family there, and walk the 2 blocks to the Baldwin for a afternoon brandy and a cigar. I beleive this is correct although Uncle was know to spin a yarn or two. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.176.139.78 (talk) 00:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
