British Challenge, English Challenge, plus other names
[edit]The name of this page should be "British Challenge". This is the current name of the tournament. There are references to tournaments with a name other than British Challenge and English Challenge - were these tournaments definitely related to this British Challenge and English Challenge event? - The European Tour doesn't seem to consider the British Challenge the same event as the English Challenge ([1]) and the announcement doesn't mention the English Challenge ([2]), so perhaps the article should be split. pʰeːnuːmuː → pʰiːnyːmyː → ɸinimi → fiɲimi 01:31, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
- There's a Scottish Challenge event in 2022 and 2023, and also between 2006 and 2018. But when you select "History" for the 2022 and 2023 events, there's no mention of the prior history of the event. The question is whether the history is reset on the Challenge Tour website when there's gaps between events being held (ie a tournament wasn't held in one or more years - or whether there's been a change to the event itself). The Irish Challenge was not held in 2020, but this does not affect the event's "History" on the website - however, this would likely be due to COVID, so would not be the result of the event being terminated. As for the English Challenge event, as per "History" on the Challenge Tour website, there was an event that was called English Challenge in 2011 and 2012, and Bridgestone Challenge in 2016, 2017, 2018 - I note that the 3 years when it was not played did not affect the events being connected in "History". In summary, I'm unsure how much credence can be given to the "History" information on the Challenge Tour website! For example, for the Scottish Challenge event, the Challenge Tour website may display all years of the event in "History" sometime in the future, and not just the events from 2022 onwards. - Given there is no reliable source to support the English/Bridgestone Challenge and the British Challenge as being the same tournament, we should split them into separate articles. wjematherplease leave a message... 07:25, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
