Biography

Spiegel was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and attended Poland Seminary High School where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track & field. In 2011, he was named to the Poland Seminary High School sports Hall of Fame. He received an A.B. in Economics from Harvard College in 1980, where he started at left tackle for the varsity football team. His senior economic honors thesis was on the future of nuclear energy in New England. He received an MBA in 1987 from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

He is the Chairman of Ford's Theatre Society Board in Washington, D.C. and a member of The Board of Overseers at Tuck School of Business and The Board of Trustees at Rollins College. He is also a Director of Liberty Mutual Holding Company, Inc., Vice-Chair of the Education and Workforce Committee at the Business Roundtable, and a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Steering Committee.

He lives in McLean, Virginia.

Business career

Spiegel's first positions were at Brown Boveri (now ABB) and Temple, Barker & Sloane, Inc.(now Oliver Wyman). He worked at Booz Allen Hamilton from 1986-2008. From 1999-2003, he worked in Tokyo as Managing Director of Booz Allen Hamilton International. From 2008-2010, he worked in Washington DC as Managing Partner of Booz and Company's global energy, chemicals and power consulting practice and led the firm's Washington, D.C. office. He was an original member of the Board of Directors for Booz & Company and was previously a member of the Board of Directors for Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc.

Authorship

He co-authored the 2009 book 'Energy Shift: Game-changing Options for Fueling the Future,' which has been translated into Spanish (by Armando Valencia),[1] and Japanese.[2][3]

Spiegel co-authored "America's Real Manufacturing Advantage," published in Strategy+Business in 2014.
