Picture[edit]

A picture of this great sportsman would be a nice addition to the page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SchumiChamp (talkcontribs) 20:49, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Paragraph about Nool's view on homosexuality[edit]

I wanted to add a Paragraph about Nool's view on homosexuality, but it was deleted.

I don't think it violates any Wikipedia policy. If so, please let me know against which ones. I have neutrally reproduced the statements made by Nool and I have given quotations. If you don't understand the quotes in Estonian, you can type them into a translator. Even if I don't like what Nool says, I can tolerate it, even though it is difficult for me. Besides, Nool made his statements not as a private person but as a politician. So I think it's justified that this is mentioned on wikipedia. For me, wikipedia is not a sports album.

I do not want to do any harm to this man.

For me, wikipedia, is an encyclopedia in the tradition of Diderot and of the Enlightenment. Nool did not make his proposals as private but as a public person and as a MP of the Estonian Parliament. Therefore, you cannot blame me of vandalism or BLP issues.

I am open for a discussion but I do not accept that you delete my paragraph just because you might not like it. 2A02:8109:B640:3B40:B196:805:65C1:18D3 (talk) 20:08, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The first source you provided is from an e-mail. And another (Kroonika - yellow media, which isn't a reliable source) giving a comment that he doesn't tell his children about homosexuality. In conclusion, I don't find it encyclopedic. Is there a reliable source, where Nool has publicly made statements? Pelmeen10 (talk) 20:52, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is this site in English, in which MP Liisa Pakosta, on behalf of IRP, apologies for the statements of Erik Nool. She would not have done so, if they haven't been true.

The first is not only an e-Mail, it is an article from Eesti Ekspress in which e-mails are given as a reliable source. Or did Nool deny that he is the author of the e-mails? If this is the case, this is rather interesting and should be added to the wikipedia article.
I did not know that Kroonika was not a reliable source and the fact that Kroonika is yellow media does not mean necessarily that it is not a reliable source.
Furthermore, he did not only say, that he does not tell his children about homosexuality but that he would rather stick to normality. This may be not shocking for you, but for many people in Europe, it is.
An other source is:

And then, an other source:

I'll give you the translation concerning Erki Nool:
Erki Nool
In 2014, when the same-sex cohabitation bill was a hot topic, former Olympic champion and IRL politician Erki Nool spoke passionately in the magazine's columns about what he thinks about gays: "I am a man of that era who was not told about gays. I came to the city to study at the age of 13. The only thing I remember is that a man was put in prison in the country with his grandparents because he had put his finger in one place of a girl. This is my only exposure. We have to consider that in Russian times it was criminally punishable. 25 years ago, not every dude waved his dill on the street. I can only suspect one or two in my circle of acquaintances.» Because of this anti-gay speech, Nool became the subject of public outrage, as a result of which he even deleted his Facebook account.
In my opinion the attitude of a public and political person towards a minority is more encyclopedic that the facts, that he was elected the most sexiest man in Estonia and that he took part in the Estonian version of Dancing with the stars. 2A02:8109:B640:3B40:B196:805:65C1:18D3 (talk) 22:03, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
elu24 is yellow too. While the dancing with the stars participation is summed up in 1 sentence, your proposal is to add a whole paragraph. I'm not saying his attitude towards homosexuality should not be mentioned at all, but only if there's a reliable source and the content needs to be directly supported by it. It's a bit difficult for me to understand that you only respond to individual arguments I put forward and ignore other ones. Is Deutschlandfunkt also a tabloid for you? And you say nothing concerning the fact that MP Liisa Pakosta has apologized for Nool's homophobic statements.
You seem to know the Estonian press landscape well. Feel free to make a suggestion on how to integrate the topic into the article. I'm sure there are enough sources
Perhaps we could ask a third person for help?
For my part, I will contact Lisette Kampus and ask her to help me with my research. 2A02:8109:B640:3B40:BDE4:5370:BF6B:A7CE (talk) 11:46, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
