Ermou Street (Athens)Ermou Street – Unnecessary disambiguation. Killuminator (talk) 17:32, 13 July 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. BilledMammal (talk) 05:15, 21 July 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 23:03, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is Commons:Category:Odos Ermou (Thessaloniki) so if notable maybe it should be a DAB but if not then move. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:47, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. We also have Hermes Street in Nicosia, which is the same name in an English translation. That should be moved to Hermes Street, Nicosia and a dabpage created. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:35, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hermes Street would never be called Ermou Street in English, would it? Are there any examples where it is? And similarly, there is no need to disambiguate Hermes Street. Andrewa (talk) 05:37, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why not if this one is? Exactly the same street name in exactly the same language (Greek)! Are there any examples where it is? Yup, plenty.[1][2][3][4][5][6] And that's just from the first page of results on Google. And similarly, there is no need to disambiguate Hermes Street. Yes, I think there is. [7][8][9][10][11] -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:25, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. There is no other article that could be called Ermou Street so it is indeed an unnecessary disambiguation. Andrewa (talk) 05:31, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Simple reversal of a redirect and reversion of an undiscussed move from 2011. There is no other article titled Ermou Street. If there's any real chance of confusion between Ermou Street and Hermes Street, just put a {{distinguish}} hatnote on each article. Station1 (talk) 05:59, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • The point is that both are called Ermou Street and Hermes Street. Therefore disambiguation is required for both. That's how disambiguation works. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:18, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      • Both articles are not titled Ermou Street. If both streets are called Ermou Street, then disambiguation is required for both. But disambiguation can take several forms. When titles are not identical, disambiguation is better handled by less intrusive hatnotes. That's how disambiguation works best. Station1 (talk) 17:42, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
        • The titles of the articles are irrelevant. It's the names of the topics that count. Both could be (and are) referred to either as Ermou Street or as Hermes Street. The titles we have assigned to the articles are purely arbitrary. Neither is primary topic, so per WP:TWODABS if an ambiguous term has no primary topic, then that term needs to lead to a disambiguation page. It is perfectly clear that this should be handled by disambiguation of the article titles and creation of a disambiguation page rather than by hatnotes. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:26, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
          • I disagree on both counts. The reason for disambiguating a title is that we can't have two identical article titles. If Ermou Street is the best title for one article and Hermes Street is the best title for a different article, there is no title conflict and no reason for title disambiguation. That doesn't mean the topics are necessarily unambiguous. If the topics can be confused, we normally disambiguate using hatnotes. But even if that wasn't so, the Athens street is the overwhelming WP:primary topic, with 25x the pageviews of the Cypriot steeet. Station1 (talk) 20:37, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
