Possible Updates[edit]

At a minimum it is probably worth creating a list of WW-II Destroyers (DD) which were redesignated Escort Destroyer (DDE). [I know the USS O'Bannon was one, and there are probably many others.

Also more information on the type of modification performed, and the intended usage would be helpful.

If more information is discovered on the ASW (DDK) modifications and usage, a page for those might also be worth creating. Occasional Reader 15:32, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

International viewpoint[edit]

This article carries the same title as that of a class of warships specifically designed for the crossover escort / fleet unit role by the United Kingdom: the Hunt-class escort destroyer.

As such, the exclusively American focus of the article is in need of a review and the article broadened in scope. If an article dealing exclusively with the American post-war type is felt to be needed, should we have a redirect for such an article entitled Escort Destroyer (DDE)?

I have added a new opening paragraph to place the 'escort destroyer' concept into its wider historical context, opening up opportunities for other contributors to expand the article in respect of, for example, various nations' specific designs (like the Hunts) or WW2 conversions of older ex-fleet destroyers, such as Towns, V&Ws or Navigatoris. 2A00:23C7:3131:FE01:7473:272A:3668:88DF (talk) 22:50, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
