Ideal sources for Wikipedia's health content are defined in the guideline Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (medicine) and are typically review articles. Here are links to possibly useful sources of information about Esophageal food bolus obstruction.
A fact from Esophageal food bolus obstruction appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 13 October 2007. The text of the entry was as follows:
The article states that giving Meat Tenderizer or Coca-Cola was often complicated by perforation of the esophagus.[12][13].
Article 12 is only about the use of meat tenderizers, and states that there is a slight increase in the rate of esophagitis.
Article 13 is about the use of Coca Cola, and in fact states clearly that the procedure is safe and with minimal likely adverse effects.
None of the articles mentioned above have any reference to an increase risk of Esophageal Rupture.
Therefore the Wikipedia article is (currently) incorrect to state that the risk of esophageal rupture is 'often' the result of these two interventions.
I think I will change the article to 'possible' rupture, but it may be more correct to state that esophageal rupture is a rare complication. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drjwolfe (talk • contribs) 12:01, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
doi:10.1007/s00455-012-9434-9 shows some circumstantial evidence that glucagon may work in steakhouse syndrome. It may be less effective in eosinophilic oesophagitis, although this is a retrospective report and the numbers are small. JFW | T@lk07:17, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
