Bombastico

[edit]

I've removed the sentence "After serving in Ethiopia, he earned the nickname "Bombastico." "

This alleged nickname, widely reported in english-sources, is *not* based on any contemporary primary source, and I'm quite sure it's a post-war hoax.

AFAIK the closer it comes to a "primary source" is a reference about it in book of memories by one of Rommel aids. But the book was written in English (where the pun Bombastico made sense), while it had no meaning whatsoever in Italian or in German! I'm quite sure that Rommel called Bombastico in some markedly unpolite way ... but that word wasn't "Bombastico" for sure!!!
