"Although"?

"One of the great achievements of Eumenes II was the expansion of the Library at Pergamon, one of the great libraries of the Ancient World and the place traditionally associated with the creation of parchment, although it had actually existed for centuries." What justifies the "although" in this sentence? --Terminally uncool (talk) 11:16, 4 March 2015 (UTC) Obviously it refers to the parchment rather than to the library, but why refer in this way to parchment in this context and as an aside? --Terminally uncool (talk) 11:22, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
