Coining of title ʻEuropean Northern Observatory[edit]

Hi everybody and very best wishes. I'm interested in knowing more about the when and the how of the coining and adoption of the title 'European Northern Observatory' for the collective installations and activities of the Istituto de Astrofísica de Canarias. I'm preparing a talk on the subject and in particular on the Observatorio de El Roque de los Muchachos for the Amateur Astronomical Union in Naples, or the 'Unione Astrofili Napoletani' as we call ourselves, and I'd really like any more history on the naming and identity of the ENO that anyone can give me.
