Year of birth[edit]

I see there are websites that list years ranging from 1907 to 1912 for Arden's birth. Her death certificate lists 1908.[1] Unless we can find a more authoritative date, I sugges we go with that, and perhaps mention that other dates were also used. -Willmcw 00:51, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure that certificate is authentic? The SSDI[2] says 1909 for 568-03-2856.
Two very legal sources state two different dates. Which one is correct? Hotwine8 02:57, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The year on her gravestone says 1908, and her family would know best. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 21:34, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"...her family would know best." Maybe so, but the earliest source I can find, the 1910 Census, gives her age as less than a year old (11 months), firmly placing her birth year as 1909. That is really the definite source in my opinion. Plus, given all of the other sources citing 1909, I tend to trust them more than what is basically second-hand information on a death certificate. If only she was in the California Birth Index; this would solve the matter quite quickly... Ernie and Bert fan (talk) 00:56, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
"...her family would know best." Citation needed. As I've found working here, persons are surprisingly poor sources for their own birthdates, and so are their families. Gene Tierney was born November 19 1920, according to her Social Security record and NY Times obit; Tierney herself thought it was November 20. Stan Kenton thought, until he was well into middle age, that his birthday was some months later than it actually was (his family lied to him to cover up that he was conceived out of wedlock). And so on.
The later case is an example of people falsifying birth dates (and years) on purpose, for whatever reason -- sometimes to appear either younger or older. [A living person] apparently did both, for instance -- made herself "older" when she was quite young, then "younger" later on. It's fairly common, or used to be (it's probably harder to pull off now).
Arden could well be a case of this. I would be inclined to go with official records. These can err, but at least its simple error rather than intention. Herostratus (talk) 02:44, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Our Miss Brooks[edit]

This article had some great info about the show, but since there is an article for the show that duplicated it, I deleted a portion of it, and left a barebones description and a link to the show's article. NickBurns 18:55, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not a beauty?[edit]

" Oscar-nominated American actress whose career as a supporting and character actor was due in large part to the fact that, while tall and slim, she was not a beauty."

This statement is extremely subjective, POV, and depends very much on someone's standard of beauty. Saxophobia 14:37, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are completely correct. It's the sort of thing you should simply remove. Rossrs 15:29, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Religion[edit]

Some sources, which tend to mirror each other and cannibalize each other's info, claim Arden was Catholic, because she apparently attended a Catholic convent school. This most certainly doesn't prove anything as many non-Catholic girls have been sent by their parents to Catholic girls' schools for various reasons, including Tallulah Bankhead, Gertrude Lawrence, Olivia de Havilland, et al., none of whom were ever Catholic. Ann Widdecombe was not Catholic when she attended La Sainte Union, although she did convert many years later. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 21:39, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Street Address?[edit]

In what way is the street address where she passed away relevant?Steve Marethyu (talk) 16:14, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Our Miss Brooks a drama?[edit]

Something I don't understand here. Arden won the first Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, but "Our Miss Brooks" was a comedy. Am I missing something? Elsquared (talk) 02:47, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
