Heavy Trucks??

[edit]

Those of you who've been hard at work here before me: any objection to my adding some info about heavy truck EDRs? So far the focus is light trucks and other passenger vehicles. Additions would be in line with the theme and organization of the present info. Perhaps the addition of a new section is warranted for them? I guess that would be a major edit that I'm proposing.Mscrecon (talk) 01:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, since no one objected, I updated the information on truck ECM / EDRs to make it more accurate. Also added a link to a page that has a list of the data in trucks by manufacturer mscrecon

Car List?

[edit]

Can we add a list of cars that have Event Data Recorders, or create a link to a exhaustive list? Peter S. 00:52, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. List of Vehicles with Event Data Recorders Fanra 15:22, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This page has been deleted - anyone know why?

Video Event Data Recorder

[edit]

Someone added information about VEDR to this. They are really different devices that might deserve their own page. So I moved the information to its own section here for now. Also, the citation given was not very good, it didn't contain the exact same information as was posted here as well as being from a company that sells the devices, which isn't exactly a neutral source. [edit]

I am finding numerous commercial links from businesses attempting to included links to their website on this page and other forensic-related pages. The biggest offenders seem to be Donan, Claims Mag, Crash Data Services, Collision Safety, and Harris Technical. These pages are not for commercial use and any extraneous links will be removed.

I improved the formatting for the external links and references and verified that the links were still active.

merge

As far as I can tell from reading the articles themselves: A Motor Vehicle Event Data Recorder (MVEDR) is more or less the same thing as an event data recorder. The differences (if any) between those two terms can be adequately covered in the merged article. Therefore, I suggest merging the two articles. --DavidCary (talk) 02:42, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This 2013 merging idea seams relevant! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.136.154.64 (talk) 16:18, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Was it merged? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.136.217.104 (talk) 12:51, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This has not been addressed. We have this article (Event data recorder), MVEDR and Accident data recorder. If not equivalent, there is a lot of overlap. I have put up merge banners to draw some attention here. ~Kvng (talk) 17:10, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

EDR and ADR are completly different, see here Accident_data_recorder#Demarcation Ing Nbg (talk) 15:53, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ing Nbg, it is OK to cover closely related topics in a single article. Based on the uncited paragraph, it does look like these both serve the same basic function but have a different implementation. ~Kvng (talk) 22:51, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Simply: NO :) the EDR were originally implemented for purposes of airbag improvement. ADR are especially designed for reconstruction of an accident. With EDR data you cannot reconstruct an accident (it is maybe possible in some cases, but this is not compulsory). Ing Nbg (talk) 12:07, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But,

The purpose of these performance elements is to ensure that EDRs record, in a readily usable manner, data valuable for effective crash investigations and for analysis of safety equipment performance (e.g., advanced restraint systems). These data will help provide a better understanding of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur and will facilitate the development of safer vehicle designs.

— Guidance on Event Data Recorder (EDR) Performance Elements Appropriate for Adoption in 1958 and 1998 Agreement Resolutions or Regulations
This means that EDR is no more only implemented for purposes of airbag improvement.
Your sentence does not make clear what part of ADR design contributing in the reconstruction of an accident would be missing in an EDR: under such a regulation, EDR would have status or quantification for: vehicle speed, brake, acceleration, engine rpm, vehicle roll angle, ABS activity, stability control, steering input, vehicle roll rate, TPMS, yaw Rate, AEBS, Cruise Control, ACC, LDWS, CSF, ESF, ACSF and accident emergency call.
Looks like EDR would not have audio, video or geo-localization. Is this the difference between ADR and EDR? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.67.202.122 (talk) 07:32, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think we agree that all three articles are talking about devices that record information about a motor vehicle accident. I don't believe we're serving readers by covering devices separately based on their intended purpose or how they're implemented. ~Kvng (talk) 22:49, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have merged MVEDR to Event data recorder as I saw no opposition to that. Discussion is still open WRT Accident data recorder. ~Kvng (talk) 20:11, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think that it's reasonable to keep Event data recorder and Accident data recorder distinct on the basis of autonomous sensors (Accident data recorder) versus integrated with the vehicles monitoring systems (Event data recorder). Klbrain (talk) 09:36, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
