Territorial waters[edit]

Why does Somalia only claim 200? Can they make it bigger? I see Russia is much longer into the sea. What is shelf and why does Somalia have little? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.170.35.39 (talk) 22:30, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Doubt about zone[edit]

Stig Jarle Hansen (not a legal expert) in 2012 argued "such a zone has to be declared publicly to the UN, which Somalia never did: instead, it declared a 200 nautical mile territorial zone, in violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the SEA. The zone is thus illegitimate according to international law.16 As Somalia did not properly deposit its EEZ claim with the UN, it could be argued that Somalia does not actually have any economic zone.17" (DEbUNkINg THE PIRAcy MyTH, RUSI JOURNAL, DECEMBER 2012 VOL. 156 NO. 6 pp. 26–30 DOI: 10.1080/03071847.2011.642682) Sources are some Norwegian Ministry of foreign affairs employee and an anti piracy forum. I assume this is a minority opinion? SovielHungerhabichgarnicht (talk) 20:46, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
