US

[edit]

Any particular reason America is not mentioned here as an example in any of these categories? Heavenlyblue (talk) 03:50, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes, manifest destiny, expansion into the Wild West, Pacific and Far East, etc. The ideas of FJ Turner. All good examples. Add if you wish. Crawiki (talk) 15:47, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Though I see there are already several cross preferences in 'see also' section Crawiki (talk) 15:49, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

References not preferences Crawiki (talk) 15:50, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I will add Manifest Destiny into the examples and topic section. --Redbarry (talk) 01:30, 7 May 2019 (UTC) Manifest Destiny already has a page, so I kept to a paragraph. Any edits or improvements welcome. Also, more info for Other types of expansion, and "Current" examples is definitely needed. Redbarry (talk) 02:47, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rework

[edit]

So, I've reworked "Recent examples" to make it more neutral and limit its scope to the 21st century.

As I went up, it turned out, that maybe the article is in need of a list of types of expansionism (colonisation, invasion, etc). -Mardus /talk 11:13, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Westward expansion" listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

Information icon A discussion is taking place to address the redirect Westward expansion. Very poor upgrade to very poor lead

[edit]

I just reworked the text of the lead to make what it was trying to say a heck of a lot easier to shoot at (the framing, at least, is now easier to pick apart).

This does not count as a vote of support on my part that the lead properly summarizes the article.

It's actually far from obvious why the lead, beyond the opening para, discusses various modes of justification at medium resolution and nothing else.

But that's what was there to buck up and I chose not to tackle coverage in this pass. — MaxEnt 22:53, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Modernity bias

[edit]

I appreciate that the article as of 20240819 deals with some difficult conceptual overlaps by deft use of links, even in the first few lines. That's actually quite good. OTOH, and despite the use of Alexander and of the Caliphate, the discussion is pretty heavily modern-leaning as far as examples go. It's as if it is premised on the idea, "Here is a practice nigh universal in human regional, cultural and political experience, and which has been justified by various means or not, with more emphasis on justification in recent times, so here are a couple of examples from millennia of human expansionism and a lengthy list from the last few centuries."
