Update[edit]

@Elinruby: You tagged this article as requiring updating in 2017. Since this individual is long deceased, it's not clear what information could be out of date. Can you elaborate? This, that and the other (talk) 12:42, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@This, that and the other: I have no specific memory of this but I would think the verb in this sentence: "A new, modernised edition of the complete dictionary being published in November 2000." At this point it either did or did not happen, no? Elinruby (talk) 18:41, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Elinruby: That's just a grammatical error that probably crept in upon translation from French. It should just be "was", because it was indeed published. I've fixed it and removed the tag. This, that and the other (talk) 07:48, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@This, that and the other: yes I realize "is" was missing. That was probably my mistake when I was unFrenching this. The update tag however was there because when I was working on it I realized that the sentence was referring an event in November 2000 as in the future. (which would explain why it was in the unFrenching queue, ie primitive machine translation.) And probably was sufficiently annoyed about the whole thing to forget to go back and pick one verb tense or another. Machine translation is a lot better these days but over the decade or so I have been around I have done a huge amount of pro bono ungibberishing of word-for-word translations in which I had no particular interest. Glad you caught this particular loose end, even if I don't remember it. I suspect this is from the period when somebody tried to mass-delete all translations. Cheers and thanks for fixing.
