Proposed merger

@Retrolord, TommyBoy, and Chazz88: I am arbitrarily closing this merger discussion because it has been 10 months since any updates, and it seems the merger was met with opposition. teratogen (talk) 07:00, 13 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have proposed that this page be merged with List of U.S. federal prisons, because all the prisons listed on that page fall under Federal Bureau of Prisons control. --TommyBoy 05:16, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. It will make the FBP article look ugly. --- Responses to Chazz's talk page. Signed by Chazz @ 12:37, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think so too. 80.178.234.65 18:09, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I also think that these articles should remain separate. I'm going to remove the merge tags. | Klaw ¡digame! 22:25, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should not be merged, countries other than the US have federal prisons, so shouldnt be put in with Federal Bureau of Prisons — Preceding unsigned comment added by Retrolord (talkcontribs) 01:20, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Needs more content

[edit]

Would like to see more information about federal prisons... I am the main contributor to TDCJ and would like to see similar content in this article.Species2112 18:02, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Such as funding: in 2012 the federal prison system is budgeted $8.076 billion.

COed prisons

[edit]

"The Law: Coed Incarceration." TIME. Monday September 16, 1974. talks about coed prisons operated by the BOP. WhisperToMe (talk) 09:30, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Seal

[edit]

I am removing the seal from the infobox of the article in light of its legal policies and disclaimers. While the BOP can't copyright its seal, "Department of Justice seals, logos and other official insignia may not be used or reproduced without written permission. Requests for permission to use or reproduce the official insignia of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Prisons, Federal Prison Industries, Parole Commission, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Marshals Service and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives shall be referred to the heads of these components." There is no showing that Wikipedia obtained this permission. Racepacket (talk) 17:15, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Weaponry

[edit]

What for weapons are used by the guards in the prisons?--Exodianecross (talk) 00:04, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There are a lot of different options; OC (pepper) spray, rubber bullets, LTL (less than lethal) munitions such as flashbang grenades and bean-bag rounds and CS gas during intense situations like a riot. In the most extreme situation, where they may lose control of a prison, the BOP has the SORT team which may introduce lethal munitions. ChocoMint (Q's?)(^_^) 08:15, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bureau jurisdiction vs court

[edit]

Is this true? The citation 404's on the BOP website.

"The Bureau has its own jurisdiction over inmates once remanded to its custody and can choose whether to follow a court's recommendations or credits for time served, and manages their release dates based on its guidelines, not the court's.[4]"

A cursory google failed to corroborate this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.44.48.122 (talk) 00:29, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The document appears to have been moved; it appears the ref was intended to point to this: http://www.bop.gov/resources/pdfs/ifss.pdf
Unfortunately, just tracking down the document took longer than I planned, so I haven't had a chance to read through it to see if the document actually supports the text in the article or not. I'll need to look later this evening, after I get back from dinner plans. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 00:39, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article

[edit]

This article seems to be very repetitive and "cut and pasted" instead of organized in a succinct way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MDEVER802 (talkcontribs) 05:56, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
