This prison was the location of the November 1987 Cuban riots. Hostages were taken and buildings were burned down. http://articles.latimes.com/1987-11-23/news/mn-15900_1_detention-center Although some of the details are incorrect. There was a pregnant female who was taken hostage. The inmates found out about the deportation from watching the news and they were not spoken to prior to that to assuage their fears.
