Fefe Dobson Article

Do to the fact my editing style may look insane. I’m going to explain my general plan. I find that unless someone creates an extremely easy to add to set up a lot editors don't take the time to add minor bits of information so I've added everything I can think of to make adding to the article about Fefe Dobson really simple. My goal is to get the article about Fefe Dobson to Featured Article Status. Rainer1 05:39, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Pronunciation of Name

How is this name pronounced? Can we get an IPA translation or an anglicized transliteration? Thanks. Davemcarlson 05:43, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I assume it's pronounced "Fifi", but that's just me. I mean she hasn't said anything, so that's how I say it. Brittany Ka 11:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Still waiting on this... 193.95.165.190 15:10, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

You are correct..."Fifi" she is.

Music Legends

"she collaborated with many of the music industry's legends such as Nina Gordon, Kay Hanley" WHO?? I'm sorry, but how can they be legends if no one's ever heard of them?

Almost everyone knows who Nina Gordon is upon hearing her name, I'd assume. Kay Hanley's my personal idol, so I'd consider her a legend, but she's probably best known for providing Josie's singing voice for the Josie and the Pussycats movie, so I can see why some people'd be iffy when calling her a 'legend.' But I in turn agree that Fefe would be associated with them in people's heads, so it fits for this article. 65.64.201.97 —Preceding comment was added at 20:06, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Performing Farts?

In the vein of assuming good faith, I thought I'd query this. While for years I've found Wikipedia useful for quick fact checking/corroboration and the like, I've only recently signed up for an account. As a newbie, I figure I'll err on the side of caution. Under the "Early Life" section, in the first paragraph can be found the following sentence: "Dobson went to a performing farts community center when she was young. In the fifth grade, she played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at her school." Is this as it should be or just in fact a typo? OK, I don't actually know anything about Fefe and only looked her up because I read the name somewhere and wanted to know more. If this is in fact some kind of commonly used slang (in which case it has no place in an encyclopaedia article anyway, afaik) then I hope I'll be forgiven for my ignorance- I've certainly not come across in British English. Anyway, hello to you all... this is my first "contribution". Hopefully over time I may make some positive waves by starting some helpful ripples. Oneiros Icelus (talk) 07:38, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protection against vandalism and unauthorized users.

Can someone please semi-lock this page. There has been quite a bit of vandalism done to this page overtime by anonymous users. I'm not to familiar with how to semi-protect the page. (Miss vicious404 (talk) 02:24, 9 December 2008 (UTC))

Hey there Miss vicious404, if you would like a page protected, add your request to WP:RPP. Only admins can protect articles; the protection template alone does nothing. Also, before nominating this specific article, I wouldn't recommend it because the level on vandalism on this article isn't very heavy. DiverseMentality 07:51, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Attention!!

This article is a big mess!! I just finished her early life section and I thought I would alert everyone that wants to edit this page to please provide references to every detail you put because I want to turn this article to Good Article status. If you don't follow the guideline then I'll revert the edit. Greene Leigh Online (talk) 14:22, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

I agree. I've just tried to comb through and fix the worst comma/semicolon/style/grammar mistakes. The footnotes are a major mess -- for this to reach GA status, someone will have to go through and fix them. They must comport with an accepted Wiki style. While there are more than one style, this article's footnotes for the most part do not comport with any accepted style.--VMAsNYC (talk) 04:42, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Request clarity

"...take place before MTV Video Music Awards performers, in between performances from MTV Video Music Awards artists..."
I don't understand what that means. Can it be restated?

VMAsNYC answer
(My understanding is that MTV VMA artists, including Dobson, will both perform at the battle of the bands and judge it--does that make sense?)
FOLLOW UP
I think I'm confused...looks like there are LOTS of diff categories to me:

  1. nominees - all of which don't have to perform, even if there. Also some may not attend due to prior engagement, etc.
  2. VMA "performers" - I guess ?? ONLY those that will be on the air live from New York's iconic Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, September 13 at 9 p.m but still called this prior to that.
  3. VMA "artists" - anyone that has had a music video broadcast on MTV, but not in Cat 2?
  4. Battle of the Bands participants [BOBP]

Return to the phrase in question:
"take place before" = in presence of, not as prior to? the "performers (#2 above)" or another way to say it: the "performers" will be in attendence, in the audience, but NOT perform themselves HERE? [Sept 11]??
Cat 4 BOBP will perform "in between performances from MTV Video Music Awards artists [Cat 3]" including Dobson??

Is that what "...take place before MTV Video Music Awards performers, in between performances from MTV Video Music Awards artists..." means??

hmmm, to answer your question...it would make more sense to me if the Cat 2 did the judging as Cat 3 could not concentrate on judging duties because they will be getting ready to perform themselves??[that is if I understand the phrase] Iknow23 (talk) 08:06, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Here is what I understand from looking at what's on the web. MTV is giving an award at the 2009 Video Music Awards for "The Best Breakout New York City Artist". 190 bands were culled down to 20, and then narrowed down to 3 finalists (you can see who they are at the aforementioned Wiki article). The 3 finalists will definitely attend and compete at a battle of the bands on 9/11. VMA artists will also perform (including Dobson) and judge the 3 competing bands. On 9/13 at the VMAs the award will be presented to the winning band.
It looks to me as though MTV used the phrases "VMA performers" and "VMA artists" interchangably, but that is open to interpretation.
I believe that "before" means in the presence of, but that also is open to interpretation. I think the best thing to do may be to simply repeat the words, the way they said them.--VMAsNYC (talk) 08:34, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

http://s1.ourstage.com/lgmedia/mtv2/MA_Best_Break_Out_New_York_City_Artist_Award_Contest_Official_Rules.pdf
Section "11. CONTEST WINNERS JUDGING/JUDGING CRITERIA: The official judging panel for the selection of the Winners will be comprised of performing artists who will be appearing at the Event and one (1) or more representatives from MTVN (collectively, the “Artist Judges”)...."
oh my..."performing artists who will be appearing at the Event" !!! but it doesn't say that THESE performing artists will be performing at THIS Event.
Okay, I give up
Thank You for responding to me though.

Good research!--VMAsNYC (talk) 20:35, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

i'm getting in trouble?

i don't understand why my particular edits are vandilism! people keep adding THE MOST UNIMPORTANT RANDOM BITS OF INFORMATION that do not need to be included on Fefe Dobson's page. all of the random junk take away from the actual important information that people come to wikipedia looking for in the first place. most of the information that's coming in and being added to her page would make more sense to be moved to her new album "Joy" 's page. which for the record is also a hideous mess.

granted most of my edits were kept, thank you, some were reverted unnecessarily. in fact, i felt as if more should be made but i didnt want to do too much because i thought i might get in trouble ironic, huh.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.106.178.182 (talk) 19:19, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Please use the "Edit summary (Briefly describe the changes you have made)" when making edits so ALL can know your reasoning behind them. When portions are DELETED WITHOUT EXPLANATION that is what makes it look like vandalism. Please review the History tab on the article page.

Article for a song

"I Want You" has been featured prominently in a lot of promotional trailers: movies, television shows, television promos. The music video has often been seen frequently on music and non-music-oriented networks on TV. Do you think this warrants notability to have it's own article? The potential for the article to expand is not amazingly strong, but there are plenty of sources for it and with her upcoming album, it may possibly chart, given more promotion. 70.153.164.243 (talk) 23:39, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Sounds fine to me. Do it! —Iknow23 (talk) 09:27, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

modeling and other appearances.

fefe has, yes, been included in magazines and stuff... but she is not a model and its really unnecessary to have a tally and chart for every appearance of her theres ever been. there are hundreds of celebrities and they all are included in magazines. all the time. and with fefes growing popularity that chart will only get bigger. i just dont think its necessary to include it on her page. her "modeling" pictures are promotions and articles and stuff. not encylopedic. 76.106.178.182 (talk) 23:06, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

call for discussion

Wow. This article currently includes Dobson in a LOT of categories, including: Category:Canadian people of First Nations descent Category:20th-century indigenous people of the Americas Category:21st-century indigenous people of the Americas Category:First Nations actresses Category:First Nations musicians.

There is nothing in the text of the article backing up that she has any First Nations heritage. I think they should be removed from the article, unless they are backed up.

If a reasonable amount of time passes, and there is no backup, let's remove all ethnic categories that don't reflect text in the article. Geo Swan (talk) 13:23, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
