Earlier Pierre Fermat Medal?[edit]
Does anyone have information about an earlier Pierre Fermat Medal (not Prize)? In the archives of the (mathematically-oriented) chemist Linus Pauling shown here, there is an image of a Pierre Fermat Medal awarded to Pauling in 1957, with the inscription Académie des Sciences Inscriptions et Belles Lettres de Toulouse. The website has a note that this was only the 6th time this medal has been awarded in the last three centuries.
It would be interesting to know who else won this medal before and after 1957, and whether it is related to the Fermat Prize described in this article which started to 1989. See also the discussion at Talk: Linus Pauling. Dirac66 (talk) 19:06, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
