I think it is wrong to say Feroz's father was an Afghan hailing from Ghazni province in Afghanistan. The term Tanoli is a Hazara version of the Afghanistani Taniwal/Tanavoli tribe. Tanolis usually cite this connection and refer to Ghazni as their original homed before travelling to their present abode in Hazara with the army of Mahmood Ghaznavi. It is this historical memory that is alive and well among majority of Hazara Tanolis. Also it was only in 1901 that Hazara, along with other areas of Eastern Afghanistan, was incorporated into British IndIAwith Amb given princely state status. People of the new North West Frontier continues to call themselves as being from Afghanistan for most of the first half of 20th century - Nowjawan e Afghan was a popular newspaper based in Hazara district before partition of 'India' So the claim by Feroz Khan and his family is about historical origin of the family rather than contemporary period. The couple with their legendary enmity towards Pakistan may explain their reluctance to face the truth of their origin in the Pakistani province of Pakhtunkhwa. 5 November 2011, 17:00, User: Moarrikh —Preceding undated comment added 17:04, 5 November 2011 (UTC).
Tanolis are not native Indians nor is the area of Pakistan that is west of River Indus/Darya e Sindh/Abaseen part of South Asian subcontinent. Baluchistan is historically part of Persia and thus middle eastern whereas North Western Frontier Province was until the end of 19th century Eastern Afghanistan province of the kingdom of Afghanistan thus central Asian. Therefore for pashtuns/pathans to call themselves Afghan or descended from Afghans is correct and proper. This fact is reflected in the name of the state called Pakistan: P is for Punjab; A for Afghnia; K for Kashmir; i for the diacritical mark 'zer' or e/i;S for Sindh; and S for Stan - together the acronym PAKISTAN means land of the pure. If you guys can't stomach that then seek therapy but the above is historical reality. There was no forcible conversion but a missionary work by sufis, conquored Hindus converting for status and prestige and intermarriage - see Anglo Indian origins.User: Moarrikh 22:03, 25 November 2011.
- The reliable news reports state that Feroz Khan's father was an ethnic Pashtun (known in India as "Pathan") and his mother was Iranian.--Nasir Ghobar (talk) 02:16, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
- That's correct. But some editors keep reinserting "Tanoli". --Enric Naval (talk) 18:53, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
