Recent Ownership section

In light of the tumult that has taken place in the financial community over the last 3-4 years, I rebuilt previous contributions to this article as well as added several others to reflect the changes in both ownership and the continuity of this enterprise relative to the rest of the industry. While initial contributions to the article seemed to be in earnest, more recent editorial changes seemed to possess other motivations of which I am not sure, other than to say that they decreased the value and authenticity of the article. I have referenced every word of my work. Stevenmitchell (talk) 20:57, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Fractional TIC

I read somewhere that this is the only bank that still offers Fractional TIC financing. Is this true? It would seem an important detail. --Treekids (talk) 01:01, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Edit Request

Hello. I am a representative of First Republic Bank and I'm hoping to make some changes to the page. I am new to Wikipedia and would appreciate any questions or feedback! Requested changes are as follows:

1. Subsidiaries in infobox

Could we add "First Republic Trust Company of Wyoming LLC" to the list of subsidiaries in the infobox?

Source: https://www.marketscreener.com/quote/stock/FIRST-REPUBLIC-BANK-6971337/news/First-Republic-Bank-Opens-Wyoming-Trust-Company-29868650/

2. First Sentence

The phrase "American bank and wealth management company" doesn't give a full picture of what we do. Could we please change this to read "First Republic Bank is a full-service financial institution"?

3. Last Sentence Under "Gradifi and Recent Events"

The last sentence refers to the year 2018, and the numbers listed are not accurate for that year. Can we change the sentence "With 5,350 employees at the time, First Republic had a market cap of $29.95 billion and wealth management assets totaling $279.4 billion" to instead read:

"With 5,350 employees at the time, First Republic had a market cap of $14.32 billion and wealth management assets totaling $126.2 billion."

Source for market cap: https://companiesmarketcap.com/first-republic-bank/marketcap/ Source for wealth management assets: https://www.firstrepublic.com/-/media/frb/documents/pdfs/annual-report/annualreport2018_ada.pdf

4. Adding Sentences to last paragraph of Gradifi and Recent Events

Could we please add these sentences to the end of the Gradifi and recent events section:

"In January of 2020, First Republic Announced the opening of a trust company in Wyoming. At the end of 2021, First Republic had $279.4 billion in wealth management assets."

Sources: https://www.marketscreener.com/quote/stock/FIRST-REPUBLIC-BANK-6971337/news/First-Republic-Bank-Opens-Wyoming-Trust-Company-29868650/ https://www.yahoo.com/now/first-republic-reports-2021-results-120000246.html

5. Subsidiaries

Could we add "First Republic Trust Company of Wyoming LLC" to the list of subsidiaries in the body of the article?

Source: https://www.marketscreener.com/quote/stock/FIRST-REPUBLIC-BANK-6971337/news/First-Republic-Bank-Opens-Wyoming-Trust-Company-29868650/

6. Branch Locations

Our branch locations change frequently, so could we delete the first sentence and the list of branch locations? Instead, could we have this section simply state, "First Republic Bank has over 80 bank locations in 11 states across the U.S., including New York, California, and Florida."

Thank you! FRB1985 (talk) 19:48, 25 May 2022 (UTC)FRB1985

Hello,
Thank you for putting in an edit request. Your requested changes were neutral in tone, which is appreciated. Nearly all of your changes were made. I will explain what I did.
2. First sentence. I added "full-service" as it appears First Republic Bank is full-service. However, I am not sure why you would want to relabel "American bank and wealth management company" with "financial institution", as the latter is just a more broad term to describe a bank or wealth management company. I believe it better to be more specific on this article since it is an accurate statement about FRB.
3. I could not access the source for 2018 wealth management assets. I instead found and cited the earnings press release for 2018 which listed the same information.
6. I removed the section about branch locations entirely and placed the single sentence under recent events. The total locations in the list was only 77, so it was already outdated. I removed it as it would be a section that needs to be regularly updated, and the information can already be accessed through the source. Someone else might disagree with me though. I then reworded your sentence where specific state locations were mentioned, as saying "including" reads more as a list of examples. I reworded that to say those states are primarily where FRB's locations are, and added Massachusetts as it looks like there are currently 4 locations there. Kingapresa (talk) 21:09, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
 Done
A separate edit request may be made if @
FRB1985
would want to further explain why the lead sentence should be worded with "financial institution", or if they are unsatisfied with the changes made. I will look out for it :)

Thank you for helping me with that edit @Kingapresa and sorry it took so long for me to reply! I appreciate your help and understand your reasoning for your decisions. If you have time, do you mind helping with a few more edits to the page? Edits are as follows:

1. After the sentence under Changes in Ownership (First Republic was founded in 1985, starting as a small thrift company.) Please add:

2. Please change the next sentence "Since its founding, it has undergone a series of ownership changes since 2007, beginning with its announced purchase by Merrill Lynch on January 29, 2007 for $1.8 billion to augment their private client business" to instead read:

"On January 29, 2007, it was announced that Merrill Lynch would be purchasing First Republic for $1.8 billion to augment the bank's private client business."

Thanks FRB1985 (talk) 18:10, 31 August 2022 (UTC)FRB1985

Hi @FRB1985,
No worries about the late reply. As you can see I also found myself being late. I was caught up in some other work.
These edits were very easy to implement! Neutral tone, nothing irrelevant or confusing. And you had some great sources, except I hadn't heard of RiaBiz before. So I did swap them out with another source listing the same information from Yahoo, which I could trust a bit more. That's the only source swapping I did.
I did do a few wording changes, nothing important for me to point out. If you have any conflict with it, let me know. What is important for me to point out is that I put the last sentence from your third request down in a new section below it, and that next section I named "Business growth and size." I also renamed the first section header "Acquisitions and Gradifi." I felt this title would be more accurate.
I might do a few of my own changes; I thought I noticed some neutral tone issues sprinkled in. I am going to mark this edit request as complete. Best-- Kingapresa (talk) 05:25, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you so much for making this edit Kingapresa! Really appreciate your help. Fine with the small wording changes and the addition of the business and growth section. Also, I realized I meant to ask for a small grammatical change and an update to a section heading so I just went ahead and did it to save time. I felt that Gradifi is only mentioned briefly in that section so I changed it to "Acquisitions and recent events." Let me know if you have any objections and thanks again! @FRB1985 Can you format the citations using WP:Citation templates inside ref tags, and add them inline next to the year? Also, not strictly necessary, but if you could reformat the table to better match the JP Morgan one (left-hand row names taking up one line each, bold titles, etc) that'd be great, but don't worry about it if the table formatting is too confusing. Otherwise it looks good to me. Rusalkii (talk) 21:24, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

FRB1985 (talk) 18:22, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi @FRB1985, this is looking good! I am sorry for the late reply. A couple things I would like to point out so that we can move further towards implementing this.
  1. @Rusalkii had pointed out that the row's on JP Morgan's table each only took up one line. I think it would look better aesthetically, but agree that it is not all that necessary, especially since the descriptions provide more accuracy/detail than the descriptions for JP Morgan's table. It's up to you
  2. You have cited the sources correctly. However, in the table, some of the sources provided are repeated, which is not necessary. If one source can be used again for another piece of information on the page, that source can be mentioned a second time without making a whole new source to the same website (this happens when you copy and paste the same source). This clutter can be fixed using list-defined references. Basically, you'll be able to name a reference once, and then mention that name another time for the same reference to appear again without it creating a new source. It'll fix the 73 citations here and should shorten it down to what I estimate 16-17.
  3. When you attempt the fix for number 2, make sure to put the citations next to the year and not the data, as Rusalkii requested.
  4. This source you provided leads to a blank page, at least for me. Could you find a different source that provides the Average Stock Price information in the data table?
  5. For the total revenue for the years between 2009 and 2015, I could not confirm the numbers provided from the sources provided. The closest, but not exact numbers, I could find were for "Interest Income," around/on the 52nd pages across the different documents. I want to assume that is the same as total revenue, but I'm not certain. If you could correct me, double check the numbers or find new sources, that would be great.
  6. Same issue with 5 with the data for Assets. Please double check those numbers that as well.
I could confirm all of the other data not mentioned here.
If you can work on all this, the table will be in a much better spot for publishing to the main page. I will make sure to keep an eye out for your reply. Thanks-- Kingapresa (talk) 21:43, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
