Alleged censorship

[edit]

I removed this section because the information appeared to be rather dubious. First of all, I doubt the colored tint were done for censorship, but were probably an artistic choice by the animators. The trailer that shows Rei slicing a thug's head without the effect was most likely from an earlier cut of the film (the same trailer shows that Heart was going to renamed "Elephant", but he kept his original name in the final film). The only change mentioned in the Japanese Wikipedia article is the one made to the ending in the 1988 Japanese VHS release. Likewise, the Italian Wikipedia page doesn't mention anything about the Dynamic Italia VHS release having the tint effect removed. Its probably true, but that doesn't mean that the film was meant to be shown that way.Jonny2x4 (talk) 19:44, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

With the exception of a 1996 Italian VHS release[citation needed] some of the films sequences had a colored tint to them. Other scenes were removed entirely, such as the burning woman and child from the nuclear holocaust sequence and the crushing of a chanters head by one of Raoh's men. One of the trailers show one of Rei's kills without the psychedelic blur effect, though reports have been made online that the film had the blur effect in theaters as well. It is unclear whether the full uncensored original still exists and it is rumored to have been lost in a fire at the Toei warehouse.[citation needed]
