[edit]Does anyone know why the rays irregular on the left and right sides? DavidMann (talk) 01:32, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- It is not yet clear weather they should be "irregular" at all. The officially published drawings available to the vexillologists abroad are too small to conclude whether they are regular or not, the irregular version was published by a single source from Malawi newspapers and the irregularity may have just been an artefact of "quick" drawing of the illustration. In any case, the exact number of ray and their "regularity" have yet to be confirmed, and vexillologists seems to be careful to label images with these "irregular" rays as temporary or unconfirmed... We need yet to see some real flags and detailed official drawings from Malawi... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.17.27.132 (talk) 12:00, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Why?
[edit]Could someone add the reason for changing the flag to this article? It stands to reason that this would be a fairly important bit of encyclopedic information for an article such as this. bwmcmaste (talk) 05:57, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- It's actually kind of in the article now -- the 1964 flag had a rising sun to represent hopes for the future, while the 2010 flag has a fully-risen sun to represent achieved accomplishments. It appears to be favored by one of the main political groupings in Malawi, and opposed by other grouping(s). AnonMoos (talk) 11:57, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- It looks like the Lybian flag.Xufanc (talk) 21:45, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- The 1951/2011 Libyan flag was buried in the dust of 4 decades of obscurity in 2010... AnonMoos (talk) 20:41, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Soooooooo....
[edit]Re the assertion "The change will not go into effect until after the president has signed the bill into law.", from a reference dated 29th of May 2012. That's been a while, so... has it been? I note a couple of other sources via google claim it became law following "the signing into law of the Protected Flags, Emblems and Names Amendment Act on 28 May 2012." And see that it appears to be being used as their official flag in the olympics, government websites and so on. So is that assertion out of date, redundant, incorrect, or possibly in need of expansion?121.75.149.92 (talk) 23:19, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- Your guess is as good as mine. I was following this for several months after the legislature passed the law and never heard anything about the president signing it, just more and more sources implying that it was already in effect. Maybe the president signed it right away (I believe she did support it), and the press just never bothered to cover the signing. GeoEvan (talk) 03:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
