NRF Destroyers

Some ships of the Allen M. Sumner (from 1965) and Gearing classes (from 1973) served in the Naval Reserve Force (NRF), remaining in commission with a partial active crew to provide training for Naval reservists. The last FRAM destroyer in US naval service was William C. Lawe, a Gearing FRAM I, decommissioned and stricken 1 October 1983 and expended as a target 14 July 1999. Ok here is a list of 15 active NRF FRAM destroyers in 1981 - DD743,763,784,817,821,825,827,862,863,864,866,876,880,883,886 - Source states Navy was mandated to keep them in commission until 1981 by congress, Navy original plans were only 4 in commission in 1981 22:29, 5 September 2024 (UTC) Wfoj3 (talk) 22:29, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
