Neutrality of article[edit]

Comments such as "Some of the Flight Unlimited community still exists, with some websites remaining, and third-party updates are still being produced. In many ways, with recent updates, this simulator offers a vastly improved experience compared to the originally-released product." Among several others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheWizardOfAhz (talkcontribs) 23:09, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing on the Flight Unlimited 3 wikipedia page that can be disputed. All of the information provided is entirely correct. I have been involved with the FU3 freeware community for the past seven years, so I am familiar with many of the addons that have been developed for the simulator. Compared to the default condition in which FU3 was released, these freeware upgrades have vastly improved the quality of the flying environment. Of course, since a chunk of this work was done by myself, I could be accused of being biased, but that really isn't the case. In fact, I decided to do the work primarily because many of the airports had been released in an unfinished state (taxiway lines, lighting systems, and AI pathways were all over the place!). I completely rebuilt them, and it took a LOT of hard work. Since this was freeware, there was no financial incentive. It was nothing more than a desire to improve the quality of the flight environment, both for myself and for others.

Many other users have done exactly the same, except that they decided to create new flyable planes, improve the weather effects, create new scenery packages, or replace the very basic AI planes with new, highly detailed versions. In fact, the High Detail AI Pack (by Ansgar Avermeyer) is probably the most impressive addon ever created for FU3.

The FU3 freeware community still exists today (January 2009), and is based at AVSIM Online (www.avsim.com). I don't know if any other FU3 websites are still active, but I do know that new content is still being created for this amazing flight simulator.

The dispute of neutrality seems unfounded to myself. Even as a named contributor to the game's resources, I do not stand to gain any benefit whatsoever by any items of content in the article. Neither does any other freeware contributor. I suppose that if the article was posted by the original owners of the game rights, that would somehow NOT be considered as a conflict of neutrality?

Claims such as 'improvements' may seem to some to be implying a lack of neutrality, and I suppose that if the statements were unwarranted in the first place (and challenged as such by visible users), there may be some grounds for a dispute. In this case however, it simply a matter of opinion, and what add-on freeware developer doesn't have an opinion?

Quite frankly, I see this as a sign of someone with nothing better to do than be critical of others. If someone has something to say, how about actually nominating what part of the article is in dispute? Until then, the hands of those who feed the Wiki should not be bitten by those who purport to support it. To do so is simply undermining the Wiki's purpose.

Unless I'm much mistaken, the image labelled as being a Stemme glider is in fact the Lake Renegade 270? --Annihilannic (talk) 11:25, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

tense in the text: past ?[edit]

the article starts with "Flight Unlimited III WAS the third..", and continues, with some exception, to be written in past. is there any reason not to change it to present?

NPOV Removal[edit]

Whoever added the NPOV tag doesn't quite grasp the concept. I dont think anyone would really dispute that 3rd party addons 'vastly improve' the experience. These comments would be fair to say for anything

NPOV is generally intended for areas where there are two strong opposing viewpoints. AFAIK no one strongly feels that third party addons detract from the quality of the product. Furthermore, no websites are explicity advertised in that section.
