FSU '98 and '99[edit]

Florida State could not have won the Florida Cup in '98 or '99 for two reasons: (1) Miami and Florida didn't play each other in either of those years (the 2000 Sugar Bowl meeting was the first game between the teams since 1987); and (2) the Florida Cup did not exist until 2002. I've corrected the list of winners.-Juicedpalmeiro 04:44, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How its Rewarded[edit]

The cup is reward when 1 team beats the other 2 so UF and UM dont have to play for FSU to win the cup. Theworm777 (talk) 13:26, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

! ?[edit]

If the Florida Cup is only awarded for round robin play then it has a clear bias against FSU since it is not the fault of the Seminoles that the Hurricanes and Gators have failed to maintain playing their series. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.90.216.96 (talk) 04:28, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge this with a general article about the 3 way rivalry?[edit]

Considering this trophy will likely never again be handed out again, and has been handed out only 5 times in total, should there just be a general article discussing the history of the 3 way rivalry? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PaxonGator (talkcontribs) 04:38, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bowl games. Why would a bowl pass up the opportunity to match up UF and UM, if both are available? --162.239.236.97 (talk) 01:02, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Florida is still willing to play neutral-site non-conference games, they were or are planning one against Michigan for 2017, maybe Miami can be a neutral-site game too. --162.239.236.97 (talk) 01:02, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to add, I can't even find a single newspaper article mentioning the Florida Cup since the original year. Practically all Google results go to this wiki page. When FSU updated the photo of the football trophy room to include Winston's Heisman and the 2013 BCS trophy, the Cup was no where to be seen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PaxonGator (talkcontribs) 05:26, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is why I have taken steps to make it more of a worthwhile article. Rather than create a new page, Have the trophy as part of the three way rivalry with historical games, notable games, etc... All schools claim "state championship" bragging rights, how would it best be represented here? If i have made any errors in the results table, please feel free to correct it. 108.253.237.81 (talk) 06:21, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Should we incorporate years in which FSU beat UM but then UF beat FSU giving UF the de facto championship? 108.253.237.81 (talk) 06:52, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Attempts to expand the Florida Cup[edit]

This is an article about a trophy created in 2002 that is specifically, by its given terms, only awarded in years when a round-robin between FSU, UF, and Miami occurs. I can understand why some users would want to add years to the article from prior to the trophy's creation or from years where no round-robin occurred, but that has no place on the Florida Cup page - it's a synthesis of information that constitutes original research, which is a no-no ([1]). The article is on the Florida Cup, the Florida Cup has been awarded five times. See also Commander-in-Chief's Trophy and the Michigan MAC Trophy for other examples of articles on round-robin trophies between three teams.

Wrong results[edit]

The cup can only be awarded on years all 3 play each other! Your article has FSU winning 7 years in a row from 2010-2016. Miami only played Florida once in that span. Miami winning 23-16! Therefore FSU could not have won the Cup! ANY of those years! 2603:9001:1F02:487F:98BD:F4E9:6FFE:196B (talk) 02:20, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If the Florida Cup is also known as the "state championship" as said at the very beginning of the article, FSU should be mentioned as state champions in the years where FSU beat both UF and Miami, albeit not Florida Cup champions. 217.180.196.127 (talk) 07:31, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
