Bushfire[edit]

The town is not destroyed. The pub, school and village hall were saved by local heros. 20% of the houses remain and the town will rebuild. It still remains one of the ten best fishing spots in Victoria. Support the local community by going for a beer at the Flowerdale Hotel, Flowerdale resident [[Above comment from User:89.124.164.140 moved from article - Melburnian (talk) 00:14, 10 February 2009 (UTC)]][reply]

Reference found and fixed, thanks. Melburnian (talk) 00:28, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I live in Hazeldene, the next town up from Flowerdale, in Murrindindi. Flowerdale lost 4 houses in the bushfires. Hazeldene lost over 200. Please ensure all towns are included and that you have the facts right. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.209.53.151 (talk) 15:15, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

February 2023 grassfire / arson?[edit]

Started this Tuesday.

Was expected to stop Thursday. [Watch and Act and then Emergency and Watch and Act again]

Now anticipated to be controlled Saturday.

Lots of civil losses and suspected criminal charge against a 71-year-old man

A big relief as I read this article
https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/fire-conditions-escalate-as-flowerdale-blaze-continues-to-burn-20230223-p5cmv9.html
There was a lot going on with dry weather and farm machinery.
The gentleman (Sangster) takes full responsibility for what happened.
VicEmergency says that the 2023 fire was not deliberately lit.
The article says that a lot of people in the outer suburbs of Melbourne may smell smoke all evening and night.
