indef-protect

Honestly, can this page be indef-partial protected? It seems to attract a lot of underage faggotry lately. Kids tend to go "oh wow i'm going to add my name to the list i'm so cool epic win lulz xD" and vandalise the page quite frequently. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 02:07, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Non-free content concerns

This list has been truncated for copyright concerns following advice from the Wikimedia Foundation's associate counsel. Please see the conversation at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. According to our counsel, copyright concerns exist with lists of this sort, which must be guided by fair use principles. Historically, we have retained small percentages of long lists (as with The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, which displays 10). If you have questions or comments about this, please feel free to come by my talk page, or to voice them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. Our communal goal, of course, is to facilitate the free flow of information within the allowances of our policies. Thank you. Moonriddengirl (talk) 02:33, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

It has been reduced again. Even including the top 10 is inconsistent with their advice, but these lists cannot keep being expanded. See also Wikipedia:Copyright in lists for more information. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:10, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Pope

Doesn't the pope need to be changed to Pope Francis? I'm not sure how to make the edit, so I'd appreciate someone changing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.163.90.97 (talk) 04:05, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Pope Francis was not in power when the 2012 list was published, Pope Benedict was. We don't name Pope Francis as the pope in the World War II article either, instead of Pope Pius XII. Same goes for presidents who have stepped down since 2012. Changing it to Pope Francis is anachronistic and incorrect. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 04:32, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

I. DIDN'T. KNOW. THIS. WAS. LAST. YEAR'S. LIST. Why don't I just bow down to your supreme knowledge of everything? You know everything in the entire world. OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH. You know, I've been thinking about it, and I think we should just make you pope. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.163.90.97 (talk) 02:50, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Calm down there, no need to be so internet-angry. Also, I'd make a horrible pope because I'm one of those evil atheists that wants to abort everybody's babies, make everyone homosexual, and all sorts of other evil atheist stuff. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 13:49, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm very good at hiding it, but I actually have some anger issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.163.90.97 (talk) 00:10, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Copyright issue- January 2016

There appears to be a confusion as to whether this list falls under fair use. The consensus on other Forbes lists talk pages seems to be that having a part of the list (usually the top 10) falls under fair use, while publishing the entire list does not. Therefore, I suggest that someone keep it down each of the respective years lists to only the top 10 (which this article qualifies) to make sure that this falls under fair use.Fireflyfanboy (talk) 04:03, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

You are correct, if kept to top 10, there is no violation of copyright. If it exceeds top 10, there will be violation. The lists in this article must stop at 10 to prevent violation of copyright. The current listing of top 10 is correct and there is no violation. Actually, I feel that top 10 list is too long , I propose a top 5 list instead.101.127.17.197 (talk) 14:00, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Pop Francis is a citizen of Argentina

Regarding this recent edit, it should be noted that Francis is a regular citizen of Argentina. He renewed his Argentine passport (which features his birth name) in 2014. [[1]] Global Cerebral Ischemia (talk) 13:41, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Pope Francis isn't powerful surely

I kind of agree with most of this list. Putin, Obama, Merkel, Xi Jinping, all very powerful people. But the Pope? He's just leader of a religious organistaion, he has no real power. Please remove him from the list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.6.161.242 (talk) 12:05, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

As the article says already in the title, the list is made by Forbes. We just report what Forbes said and there is no way we are going to lie about that. It's common to view the pope as very powerful, or very influential if you don't like the word power here. Worth (magazine) lists him as the most powerful person in global finance [2] and that isn't even supposed to be a significant area for a pope. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:40, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
As mentioned, the OP misunderstands the article. Nevertheless, it's seems obtuse to say that one of the most influential human beings on the planet "has no real power." Global Cerebral Ischemia (talk) 13:44, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Permanent page protection

Why are sysops reluctant to permanently protect this page? It's not like these lists are going to change that frequently; why are IPs allowed to edit so freely on a page so frequently vandalised by IP editors? At most, a new list will be published once per year - there is no need for people to be editing this page all the time. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 09:22, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

For what it's worth, I completely agree. Can't fathom why this hasn't already been done. Global Cerebral Ischemia (talk) 13:46, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Lists between 2011 and 2014

The links below provide the lists of 2009, 2010 and 2015. Are the lists from 2011 to 2014 still available now in the website of Forbes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Liberty & equality (talkcontribs) 15:40, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

What links? Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 15:55, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
I guess it refers to Forbes list of The World's Most Powerful People#External links. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:58, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Yes. Liberty & equality (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 11:02, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

More inclusion would be nice

There is a list for women, a list for men & women, but no list for men. Is it now politically incorrect to make a truthful, factual, objective list of the most power men in the world? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.85.169.29 (talk) 15:44, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia is based on published sources. The list is by Forbes and we only report what they say. They don't have a list for men only as far as I know. In my opinion it would also be too much redundancy to make such a list if nearly the whole existing list is men. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:05, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

– Forbes seems to be the only widely-accepted maintainer of such lists. The disambiguation is unnecessary as there are no other notable lists of powerful people. The editor whose username is Z0 18:42, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

  • Oppose. Without the "Forbes" designation, the article title would give the misleading impression that there is a widespread consensus on these people, in this specific ranked ordering, as the most powerful people or women in the world rather than reflecting that these lists are one particular magazine publication's opinion. —Lowellian (reply) 01:11, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose It is Forbes' list, no more no less. The suggested title gives the list extreme undue relevance, will create confusion and violates policy. –Ammarpad (talk) 11:36, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose. The offical name by Forbes does not include "Forbes" but other sources always say it's from Forbes when they mention the list. "The World's most powerful people" would be a possible title for a Wikipedia article if the Forbes list didn't even exist. Excluding Forbes from the title gives too much risk of reader confusion even if Forbes is mentioned in the lead. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:31, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

Post 2018?

Is this article 4 years out of date, or did Forbes discontinue the list? -- Frankie1969 (talk) 01:19, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

@Frankie1969: 2018 is the most recent list. I don't know whether Forbes has made a statement about discontinuing it permanently. They skipped 2017. https://www.forbes.com/powerful-people/list/ shows the 2018 list. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:52, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
