General Questions[edit]

Wondering if it would be inappropriate to relegate the biographical information about W.H. Fowler to his own page. Also want to look into finding if there is any information about the manufacturing process of the calculator. Njsrk9 (talk) 17:49, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest that it's often the case that a person and the company they founded are considered notable enough for one article between them but not two, and the reader is probably better served by a single article rather than two which overlap. As long as there is a redirect from William Henry Fowler (there is, now that I've created it), and it is listed on the disambiguation page William Fowler (done) and in Fowler (surname) (done), it's fine to keep the biog info about the company founder within the company page - unless you find that he was notable for a much wider range of activity. Thanks for the edits and for redirecting his name. I agree that so long as history on William Fowler stays centered around his contribution to the calculators it should remain within one page. I am planning on adding a bit more info based on information from the Slide Rule Museum[1] as it provides bulleted information on his early life and what may have lead to his development of the watch chronologically. Found a database that has catalogued The Mechanical Engineer. Adding the appropriate citation in the History section. Also going to look into adding information about the various designs that were produced. Njsrk9 (talk) 17:17, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Remarks[edit]

I have plans of updating the article with a few bits of information regarding William Fowler's life prior to developing the calculators and will be implementing it into it's own section titled Early Life of William Fowler Daryl Gichui (talk) 23:26, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Section: Types of Fowler Calculators[edit]

Adding a section below History to list the types of calculators the company made. Only have substantial information on the Long Scale and Magnum series right now, but planning to add more in the near future. Njsrk9 (talk) 05:42, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edits and Additions (4/27/21)[edit]

I proofread the History section and added some additional information. Also found an article from the Scientific Instrument Society that collected and properly cited the information already being used on this page. Seems like a much more useful source than what we had been using. As such, I moved the ISRM and Grace's Guide links to the External links section. As to the progress on the Types section, I seriously cannot find enough information on the history of the company's other calculators to write about them. Maybe someone far greater than I will come along and fill the section out with tons of information, but, for now, the Magnum is all I've got. Njsrk9 (talk) 12:01, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
