After previous deletion, Kinslayer proposed to change his opinion. Believe notability of Frederique Constant as Watch Manufacturer was established and accepted.

If still in doubt, please compare notability of Frederique Constant with many other, less known companies on list Watch Manufacturers. Pcstas 06:36, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Company foundation

[edit]

Frederique Constant was founded in 1988, not 1904 as somebody changed in Wiki. Company founders are Aletta and Peter Stas. The name Frederique Constant is based on our great grand parents Frederique Schreiner and Constant Stas. Pcstas 02:55, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just flagging a possible WP:COI, however Special:Contributions/Pcstas all seem reasonable at first look, and above comment and change is certainly supported by sources. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:07, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Withdrawn. The accents are appropriate, despite being inconsistently applied. BarrelProof (talk) 01:22, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Frédérique ConstantFrederique Constant – The company logo and website do not seem to contain the accents, and they are completely absent from the article content. BarrelProof (talk) 18:05, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question - the website looks amateurish, does the FR section contain French accents for any words? Because if it does then it is WP:IRS for accents, but if not we should default to WP:FRMOS. Otherwise the whole history section looks dubious. I added a Spanish and Italian source for "Frédérique Schreiner .. 1904", but I imagine the "history" is simply sown in these books by canny marketing from the 1988 company, and the sources are just regurgitating a bogus pedigree. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:22, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see that the web site does contain the accents in some places, although seemingly not in most places (and not in the logo that appears on the watch faces). The use of accents on the web site appears similar whether looking at the English or French site versions. I suppose it is not really such an important matter – it just struck me as odd that the article title has the accents while the article itself basically does not. As for the company history story, I don't think the company really claims significant continuity with that older history (and that sentence about the history is something I just added into the article myself within the last day after finding it in a source). Please see also the "Company foundation" remark above, which I had forgotten. —BarrelProof (talk) 14:13, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't previously even get the French section of the website to display, the menu pops up in French but then leads to articles which are in English. Now cracked it, English: We pay particular attention to design at Frédérique Constant. We like our watches to be classical and traditional whilst remaining timeless. Every timepiece is created with a genuine passion for details. French: "Une attention particulière est apportée au design chez Frédérique Constant. Nous tenons à ce que nos montres, classiques et traditionnelles, restent intemporelles. Tous nos garde-temps sont créés avec une réelle passion pour les détails." I'd be inclined to stick with WP:FRMOS then, also given WHF article gives "Frédérique Constant is passionate and proud to support the World Heart Federation" etc. The actual watch face and brand literature one wouldn't expect to carry accents, certain not with capitalized FREDERIQUE, French are constantly dropping accent on capital E because of type height problems. I've added "..édé.." into first mention and infobox, based on these sources, doesn't require going through entire article. Not clear whether the company itself claims that the 2 original grandparents worked together in 1904, seems to be only Constant, the Spanish and Italian sources I added yesterday may have jumped to an unwarranted conclusion? In ictu oculi (talk) 00:12, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think they make such a claim. —BarrelProof (talk) 01:22, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ownership structure

[edit]

Perhaps it's a fine point, as these seem to be privately-owned companies with roughly the same people at the helm, but my understanding is that the ownership structure description here and in the Alpina Watches article is a bit incorrect. The Wikipedia articles say that Alpina is owned by Frédérique Constant. However, as found in the Manufacture Modules Technologies (MMT) article and some recent edits with citations, I believe the correct description is that Alpina and Frédérique Constant are distinct entities that are owned by another company named Union Horlogère Holdings or Union Horlogère Holding, e.g., as described here: Stephen Pulvirent (February 26, 2015). "The Swiss Have Finally Started Making Luxury Smartwatches". Bloomberg. Union Horlogère also seems to be a separate watch brand (see http://www.unionhorlogere.ch) – a historic brand name resurrected in 2011. Eventually, we should fix the ownership description. —BarrelProof (talk) 19:00, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Frederique Constant SA and Alpina Watches International SA have been acquired by Citizen Holdings.
Union Horlogere Holding and MMT have been spun-out of the Frédérique Constant Group. Union Horlogere Holding BV remains privately owned.
Manufacture Module Technologies Sarl
Fullpower Technologies Inc. 19.99% share was acquired by Union Horlogere Holding BV, giving it 100% of shares in MMT.

Alpina

[edit]

Alpina Watches was added to Frederique Constant page with incorrect statement.

Frédérique Constant owns Alpina Watches International SA

Alpina watches is an independent brand with long history and owned by Citizen Watch upon acquisition in 2016.

Original Alpina page should be restored. Pcstas 17:53, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that depends somewhat on what is meant by "Frederique Constant" – whether this refers to the Frederique Constant SA or the "Frederique Constant Group". If I understand correctly from this announcement, and previous conversations, at the time of the sale to Citizen Watch, Frederique Constant Holding SA owned Union Horlogère Holding B.V., which owned the companies Frederique Constant SA, Alpina Watches International SA, and Ateliers deMonaco SA. The names (and ownership) seem so similar that "Frederique Constant" could refer either to the parent holding company or one of the watchmaking companies that it owns. That seems to be the source of confusion. Alpina Watches was owned by Frederique Constant Holding SA, but was not owned by Frederique Constant SA. Is that correct? —BarrelProof (talk) 08:47, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
