Name
[edit]Why Graham-Smith? I believe that Graham is a forename, not part of the surname! (eg I recollect hearing Martin Ryle talk about him as 'Graham', and the Greewich2000 bio refers to him as 'Smith').Linuxlad
- But in the list of Fellows of the Royal Society, his entry under 'Smith, Francis Graham' is redirected back to Graham-Smith. Linuxlad_
- I believe that he was hyphenated when he was knighted. 82.163.24.100 (talk) 21:07, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Both Smith himself, and his cousins, who included my recently-deceased father, call him "Graham" as his usual forename, with "Smith" as his surname. I have no written documentation, other than a personal email. (I myself am not in regular contact with Graham.) It does appear that in his earlier writings, or rather earlier editions of his writings, as author his name did not have the hyphen and his full name was often shown as "F. Graham Smith".
