Pottenger's cats[edit]

Both this and this suggest that at least one of the diets had cooked meat, which contradicts the info found here. Doesn't help that the weston a price article backs up the information here.--165.21.154.90 (talk) 01:54, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From text of the original book quoted in this article, it is pretty clear that there were at least two different studies. The meat study compares raw meat with cooked meat, in the proportion of 2/3 meat and 1/3 raw milk. The milk study compared raw milk with the various types of cooked milk in the proportion of 2/3 milk and 1/3 raw meat. The Weston A Price article is messed up. For example, it states that "other groups received part of the diet as pasteurized milk or cooked meat, summarized as follows:", but non of the diets shown had cooked meat.--Dodo bird (talk) 18:02, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the "Effects on cats" section might be referring to the meat study rather than the milk study. Needs to be verified.--Dodo bird (talk) 18:14, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This smells of quackery. --86.149.141.56 (talk) 13:50, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pottenger's death[edit]

Pottenger himself passed away at the age of 65, the article doesn't state where and how. Also death at age 65, while not unheard of, is still a bit on the young side, even in 1967 as life expectancy for men was 76.2 years. Would be good to add some detail about this. 2601:8C:4182:9B40:3937:4810:2082:9155 (talk) 06:37, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He died from a heart attack in Glendora, California there are some old articles about it [1], [2], [3]. There is information in these articles how Pottenger was promoting a high-fat meat diet. As far as I can see his family never did that. His father died age 91 [4] and his son died aged 94 [5]. Psychologist Guy (talk) 10:51, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
David J. Getoff a president of the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation died aged 70. He was promoting the same high-fat meat diet with raw milk that Pottenger advocated [6]. Psychologist Guy (talk) 17:39, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
