Let's leave collapse-response to the collapse article[edit]

These two events, while certainly relevant to the bridge's collapse, are not particularly relevant to its replacement, which is barely into its planning stage. So I've removed the Dali passage and tightened the removal one: "On June 10, the last of the debris was removed and the channel fully reopened to shipping."

Removed text:

"Points of progress towards bridge replacement

"On May 21, 2024, 56 days after the initial bridge collapse, salvage crews were finally able to disentangle the Dali container ship from the wreckage of the collapsed bridge and to tow the Dali to a nearby dock. The Dali had been pinned onto a mud shoal with the weight of a section of the bridge resting on its bow for nearly eight weeks.

"On June 10, 2024, 76 days after the collapse, salvage workers completed the removal of bridge debris from the floor of the original channel and re-opened the channel for normal shipping traffic."

Ok, but the demolition-phase of a construction project is usually considered as a part of the overall construction project as well, and the demolition-phase here is far from over. Most likely, assuming the Maryland folks stay with the cable stayed bridge design, as one of the bidders said, "All of the structural components of the original bridge will most likely have to be demolished and removed from the site." I would say that the remainder of the demolition-phase should be covered in this article.

When do you think we should start covering the demolition-phase of this bridge construction project in this article?

That's a good point, about demolition being part of construction. Let's draw a line between clearing the channel (which we'll leave to the collapse article) and demolition of other bridge parts (which we can include here). We've already mentioned that one company said MD officials said demolition would be necessary, and that MD officials said that they're still deciding. Sounds good to me. Another good point of that is that I don't think they will be very likely to demolish any additional support structures until after the bridge contract has been signed. So, I agree entirely. Once the bridge contract has been signed, it will be a sort of a new phase of construction.
