Professor?[edit]

'he was appointed professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.'

Is this word 'professor' used in the American sense (every member of the teaching staff of an American university seems to be called a 'professor') or is it used in the British sense of 'Professor' i.e. the Head of a Faculty, a position attained after a career of outstanding scholarly research and publication, with the word 'Professor' capitalised, used as an honorific as well as a 'job title'.

If Brüggen was a 'professor' at the age of 21, I'm guessing he was an instructor, what in the British system would be called a 'Tutor'. Most people at that age have barely commenced their PhD. 2001:8003:3020:1C00:EDC2:3152:48D0:5789 (talk) 22:26, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
