Evidence for Stephani's progressive brain disease[edit]

What is the evidence that Franz Stephani had a progressive brain disease? The source that has been added is the book "The Hepaticae and Anthocerotae of North America east of the hundredth meridian". I have an electronic version of the book, and I finished reading the first volume and didn't find any mention of Stephani's brain disease. I checked volumes 2 and 3, although more briefly, and I didn't find anything there either. The way RM Schuster explains Stephani's poor work quality is that Stephani was "overwhelmed with the amount of exotic material sent to him" but there's nothing about a brain disease. So what is the actual source for this? W4Vdragon (talk) 10:45, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
