Inaccurate information

Fred Durst was never in the band Death, Nor Carcass, and he is not a Death metal guitarist.

This article makes no mention either of Fred's daughter Adrianna, from his first marriage when he was right out of the Navy. Adrianna is mentioned on Fred's official imdb bio, as well as numerous photos of them together on the net. Fred also makes mention himself of his daughter through lyrics, "my daughter adrianna...for the love i feel inside". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.120.192.41 (talk) 01:45, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Ambiguous phrasing and non-notable content

The latter half of this article (dealing with Durst's apparent alienation from his fans and the music industry as a whole) contains some ambiguous wording. Note:

Durst's performance with Christina Aguilera at the MTV Video Music Awards certainly didn't help his credibility, and almost ruined hers.

Did this really almost ruin Aguilera's career? As I recall, she released a Spanish-language album, a Christmas album, and her multi-platimum album Stripped (including several singles that received heavy radio play) during the couple years following her performance with Durst?

Eminem has ridiculed Durst on a number of his songs.

Eminem has ridiculed many of his musical peers. His feud with Durst isn't terribly notable, considering Eminem's lyrical attacks on N'Sync, Moby, Everlast, Brintey Spears, Christina Aguilera, Insane Clown Posse, etc. (etc etc etc)

He also had a falling out with Trent Reznor. Zakk Wylde has an intense hatred for him.

Whether true or not, what is the basis for these statements?

On the Celebrity Deathmatch show, Durst in stop motion form challenged James Hetfield of Metallica. Hetfield was victorious although critically damaged.

Similar to the aforementioned Eminem feud, dozens, if not hundreds, of entertainers have been parodied on Celebrity Deathmatch. And at least half of them died brutal and bloody deaths. Again, Durst (or Hetfield, for that matter) is not notable in this regard. And Hetfield was "critically damaged"? So what?

Furthermore, the majority of this article's content seems to refer more to the "gossipy" elements of Durst's popularity (his feuds, the list of women he's rumored to have dated, even his not-terribly-unusual body piercing). Durst is primarily known as the lead singer of a rock band, right? This article should reflect more on his music career. For example, he's apparently a producer and industry executive in addition to fronting a band. Maybe someone could add some info about his production style and studio work?

I'd attempt to make the necessary changes, but I have very limited knowledge about Fred Durst. And besides, I like Trent Reznor. :)

Jonathan Davis tatoo

I've removed the following section because it doesn't add any information about Durst:

Durst got his big break soon after, in an interesting way. While on tour, KoЯn frontman Jonathan Davis wanted to get a tattoo. His tattoo artist was Durst. It wasn't Jon that got the tattoo, it was ex-korn member Head.

POV

This article has some serious issues with POV and quality. It is very poorly written. I did my best to fix as much of it as possible but I do not know anything about Fred Durst. QzarBaron 21:27, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Fred did not create Faith

Removed Faith from the list of songs that Fred created; as George Michael would love to point out, that song was released when Durst was still running round with a fred durst haircut. 9:05, 23 April 2006.

Fred Durst's penis length

I think that information should be taken out of the article. Sure, his dick length is verifiable through the leaked video clip but is it really necessary to mention it in the article?

Copy editing

This article is poorly written and needs a lot of TLC and organization. I've already made some changes; I'm going to work with it some more to improve its POV and spelling/grammar.

Not to be critical of the fifteen-year-old kids out there, but it reads like it was written by a teenager with categories such as "fickle fans." Stick Fig 00:49, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Should we block IPs/new users from editing?

It seems like we have problems with users vandalizing/changing information on this page daily. I think it would be helpful from an editing perspective to make sure everyone posting here is registered and not trying to add their own versions of Wikiality to the page. On "controversial"

My feeling is, if a person does controversial things that alienate him towards many, even if I don't personally think they're controversial myself, that makes the person controversial. I don't see that as point of view because it notes a part of his public persona. I'll rework the wording a little bit (perhaps a "target of controversy" might be more apt), but putting nothing in their and ignoring this part of their persona seems to be doing the article as much of a disservice as some overly harsh POV would. Feuds

On top of the mentioned feuds in the article, there was a feud he had with Creed lead singer Scott Stapp on I think two different occasions. There is a video on MTV.com's news archive from like 1999 or 2000 where Fred Durst got on stage during a concert, I think it said krocks dysfunctional family picnic or something like that and said "This song goes out to the lead singer of Creed. The guy's an egomaniac. He's a f***ing punk! F*** that motherf***er and f*** you too!" and later said, according to the news piece, something like he'll hand out pillows for when Creed comes out. I know it's on the site, but I don't feel like searching through the archives to find it at the moment. The other incident I think had something to do with Taproot. Original research

Serious problems throughout this article. Early life section is rife with unsourced claims about Durst's personal life and feelings that the article makes no attempt to substantiate. These unsourced claims about his biological father are quite out of line, particularly if the guy is still alive per WP:BLP:

When he ran out of money, he decided to learn more about his biological father. His mother told him where he lived (back in Jacksonville), and Durst went to visit, possibly hoping he’d give him some money. When he returned from the visit, he only said, “What an asshole.” As a result, he gained a newfound appreciation for his stepfather, Bill.

Article needs major re-write

I don't know who needs to do it, but this article is trash. All the immature people who keep vandalising the article or glorifying him need to stop. I suggest someone un-biased needs to rewrite this article. I'd do it, but I'm a bit biased against the guy (I find him annoying). Also, my knowledge of the guy is extremely limited. I'll fix what I can, but I cannot promise much. I've added citations everywhere. There needs to be sources. You cannot say that "this is all on that MTV show" or something to that effect. Sources are needed. Remember, citations need to be at least at the end of every paragraph, or when the topic changes. I know Trivia sections are discouraged, but I cannot find anywhere to dump those tidbits of information, so I've stuck them there for the time being. Internally inconsistent

This article lists place of birth as both Jacksonville, FL and Gastonia, NC. I don't know which is correct, but if someone does it should be changed.

I fixed it Fred was born in Jacksonville then moved to Gastonnia where he attended high school. he then moved back to Jacksonville due to Gastonia's lack of a music scene then LB was formed you know the rest. TG 50 (talk) 01:25, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

The article currently still shows an inconsistency between Jacksonville, Florida and Gastonia, North Carolina as his place of birth. Has anyone got a couple of reliable and citable sources to sort this one out, one way or the other? Thanks,

Though I do not have any justifiable proof that this is correct, it is common knowledge in the Gastonia area, and has also developed into a common hatred for Fred due to him claiming Jacksonville instead of Gastonia as his home town. Eminem and Fred did not feud

Guitarist and guitar as occupation???

Guitarist & Guitar removed, I don't think it is plausible to class someone as a guitarist for playing on stage once, at a less than basic level, Fred has never recorded on guitar or used his guitar ability to make money, as he has never made money from this I can't see the reason for it being an occupation.

I went for this, as opposed to this for the lead image, because he's looking at the camera in the film premiere image, whereas he's looking away from the camera in the concert photo. A centered head shot is more appropriate for heading a biographical article.

Orphaned references in Fred Durst

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Fred Durst's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
