The remark ``macht doch euren dreck alleen is - according to the tradition the reached me, a response to the suggestion that he should stay on as president of the saxon republic. It makes more sense in that context. Apparently he was personally popular

You keep referring to a “Saxon” language. The language they use in Saxony is German.
