Date of birth

[edit]

Hmmm if Frederick Lane was born in 1888 and competed in the 1900 Paris Olympics then he was around 12 years of age at the time.

I beleive he was 20 years old when he competed in the 1900 Paris Olympics so his birth date would be around 1880. I'll update the entry if I can find a reputable source to confirm the date.

Unfortunately it seems now many other entries appear on the web quoting his birth date as 1888. I presume they copied this from Wikipedia.

I'm new to Wikipedia but I think articles would be better if they quoted the original source of the information. In my historical research I constantly find errors that are often repeated over the years through various publications. It's amazing how mistakes are perpetuated.

...one more thing... he didn't win any gold medals although he did come first in two events. In the 1900 Olympics they hadn't yet started to give out medals as the standard award. I believe Fred received a bronze statue for first place in one event. 07:39, 8 sep. 2005 by 155.35.248.111

His Country

[edit]

OK, but the "...first to represent his country in swimming..." might be a bit dodgy considering Australia wasn't even a country until about six months after the event. Like Flack at Athens in 1896, it's hard to argue the case for an Australian win.````Baxter de Wahl 06:15, 30 maj. 2007‎ 165.12.252.11

Seine?

[edit]

Is he really coming out of the Seine river in the moment pictured in the infobox?? Does that mean the swimming events took part in the river? It seems so... ThomasPusch (talk) 04:45, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
