Okay, notes below: Casliber (talk · contribs) 09:23, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Any info on why it is recognised by some kennel clubs and not others would be good.
  • I think it's simply down to a numbers game. In order to be recognised by certain Kennel Clubs (particularly the UK and American ones), there has to be a minimum number bred along with a certain number of generations bred in the country.Miyagawa (talk) 10:10, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • If a French Spaniel isn't recognised by a club, when what is it considered to be?
  • It would still be considered to be that breed - usually an independent breed club is set up in the country which collects registrations to be used eventually to petition the national kennel club for recognition of the breed (and so that it can compete in multi-breed shows and events in that country). However, in the two major countries for dog showing (USA and UK), there are no national breed clubs currently set up. I've had a look and I can't find any kennels in the UK (a typically difficult country to import new breeds into due to custom laws) and just the one kennel in Minnesota in the United States. This breed, like the Blue Picardy Spaniel, has mainly been imported into Canada as it's a French breed.Miyagawa (talk) 10:10, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • All that information, if it can be sourced, would be great to add to give a clearer picture on how uncommon the breed is and why it isn't recognised (speaking as an outsider). If you can't source it then you can't. Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:52, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any info on historical subtypes?
  • No information that I could find. Prior to modern kennel clubs, any subtypes would simply have been called French Spaniels as there wasn't the breakdown like in England due to size (Cocker, Springer etc..).Miyagawa (talk) 10:10, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • At the turn of the 20th century, the numbers of French Spaniels dropped so low that they nearly became extinct. - do we know why at all?

Otherwise looking pretty 'Good' :) Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:55, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
