  • I have just discovered a major inconsistency between two reputable sources in the origins of this vessel. I am making further inquiries.Acad Ronin (talk) 01:43, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • Mystery solved. There were two separate privateer vessels named Duc de Chartres, both launched in 1780. (Please see entries №1777 and №1837 in Demerliac 1774-1792 volume.) The Duc de Chartres that became Coureur was launched at Saint Malo. The one the British captured in 1782 that became HMS Duc de Chartres before being sold in 1784 was launched at Le Havre rather than from St Malo.Acad Ronin (talk) 14:28, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
