Revision of Diction & Punctuation

[edit]

The article read "She is known for her roles in the Telemundo television telenovela series Prisionera, Dame Chocolate and Doña Bárbara." This string of words contains "series" which is ambiguous as to singular vs plural number. The word series is followed by a string of words which constitutes an appositive to the term "series." Thus it would have to be set off by a semi-colon (since there are commas in the list). The simple solution to the diction is to just say "telenovelas," and delete "series." The punctuation problem is solved by adding "entitled" after telenovelas, then there is no appositional structure which requires a comma or semi-colon for embedded commas. Génesis RodríguezGenesis Rodriguez – Per WP:COMMONNAME. Her own personal verified Twitter, verified Instagram and verified Facebook pages spells her name without the accented é and í and presume she knows how to spell her own name. IMDb reflects that and credits shown at IMDb for released projects have only a few credits using the accented vowels. Most articles in English that mention her on other pages reflect the lack of accents. Geraldo Perez (talk) 23:41, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support, of course, as proposer. WP:COMMONNAME is fairly clear here. I personally checked my copy of Big Hero 6 (film) to verified how credited in that project. IMDb is generally accurate for credits of released projects and generally get the info from official sources. Sources in English about her other projects are fairly standard in not using the accent marks. Spanish language sources do use the accents but most of her work is in English on US projects. This is likely a variation of standard orthography between Spanish and English but we should be using English standard for spelling on enwiki. Particularly for an American actress born in the US and who works in the US. Geraldo Perez (talk) 23:50, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Considering that his father is Venezuelan, in his birth certificate his name may be written with accents, which I do not know exactly; But since she began her career as an actress has been credited as "Génesis Rodríguez" As you can see here.--Philip J Fry :  Talk  23:54, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Philip J Fry: I assume you meant to write "Considering that her father is Venezuelan, in her birth certificate her name may be written with accents". You may be right - but we don't have that as a source. Or they could have dropped the accents just as well and went with a English orthography, still no source. What we do have is how she, herself, spells her own name now. I am not surprised her early work in Spanish uses Spanish spelling standards but that does not appear to be how her current credits are listed and current projects are in English. Geraldo Perez (talk) 00:17, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is fine, but considering that he is better known for his projects in Spanish, I think the right thing would be to leave the name as it is. Actually his most outstanding role was "Doña Bárbara".--Philip J Fry :  Talk  00:25, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Philip J Fry: I understand your reasoning, I just think weight of other credits matter more. I tagged you comments as oppose. That looks to be your intent so hope that is OK with you. Geraldo Perez (talk) 00:32, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am not opposing anything. I just want to comment on this so that it is taken into account, maybe later other users will appear with some more effective contribution on this matter.--Philip J Fry :  Talk  00:39, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Genesis RodriguezGenesis Rodríguez – It is true that when people are born in the United States, their names do not have an accent. And it is understandable, but the surname is that of the father, and he was born in Venezuela. Therefore, the surname must go with an accent. Philip J Fry (talk) (cont) 06:46, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I honestly think we should just follow nationality. To single out individuals is largely OR and a bit creepy, aside from being subjective. In ictu oculi (talk) 20:46, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
When she began his career he was also credited with accents in their names. The last name is the father's, not hers. And that one has an accent.--Philip J Fry (talk) (cont) 22:01, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously?

Came here to find out all about one of my favorite Umbrella Academy actors, only to discover that she isn’t actually Swedish and there’s nothing in the bio about her role. I admit I was duped about the Swedish part, but come on, shouldn’t there be content about her role on that show? Viriditas (talk) 22:51, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Restored head tilt

[edit]

Why in the world was this photo altered to remove the head tilt? That's the entire purpose of the pose. It improves the quality of the image, which is why she did it. Restored. Viriditas (talk) 23:01, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
