The word is rarely offensive in Mexico, it is a fairly neutral descriptive of someone who is lighter than average: in a place that's heavily indigenous in southern Mexico, that could mean someone who is a lighter mestizo with brown hair and skin that olive or tan rather than brown. In northern Mexico or urban areas, it usually implies a more blond and white-skinned appearance. Mexican-Americans or Chicanos are more likely to use it as a synonym for "Anglo-American," and some may use it more as a slur, but a whiter skinned Hispanic person may be called güero as a nickname.69.171.160.60 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 02:35, 20 August 2010 (UTC).[reply]
