Günter/Guenter

[edit]

I will change the title if no one minds to the correct spelling. --mando 09:02, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

None from me. I have no ideal how the heck he spells his name anyway. --buck 22:43, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well it's not the "correct" spelling per se but Guenter is the spelling he has been using for the past few years. -- 63.23.85.32 13:42, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I would prefer to leave the article title as "Günter Schulz" and have "Guenter Schulz" redirect there. Quick German lesson for those who are reading this who may not be familiar with the language: umlauted vowels in German are equivalent to the vowel followed by an 'e', so ä = ae, ö = oe, ü = ue (in German, only the letters A, O, and U can have an umlaut; other characters such as 'ï' are not German and thus could not be expanded in this way), so ultimately "Günter" and "Guenter" are equivalent (though umlauted vowels are typically preferred in text except when constrained by technical limitations). Was Günter explicitly quoted somewhere as saying he prefers to expand the ü, or is this move based primarily on the fact that the Slick Idiot and Schulzmusic websites write it out as "Guenter"? I have a feeling that the usage of "Guenter" throughout these pages is simply a matter of convenience, since if you live in North America and have become accustomed to a US-layout keyboard, hunting for the umlauted characters (as well as the eszett - ß) every time you need them can be a pain (and also they can sometimes cause problems with text processing systems that have technical limitations... when these systems try to interpret the umlauted character, they will print out a '?', box, or some other annoying and out-of-place looking character (see his early posts on Günter's Guitar Garage... you can actually see when he gave up and started spelling it out)). This looks to be the case to me, since it appears that all umlauted vowels throughout both sites have been expanded (Check out the lyrics to Slick songs with German in them, such as "Forgive Me" (öffne, schönsten) and "Immer Wieder" (Knüppel, verrückt, härter, köstliche), and the bio page on Schulzmusic (Universität)). So, to summarize: if Günter has explicitly said somewhere that he prefers to expand it as "Guenter" (and it's not just to avoid technical problems), keep it this way; if not, I'd switch it back to "Günter" since Wikipedia does not have any problems displaying umlauted characters correctly.

Well if Guenter is the way it used it liner notes and websites that will be the way most people would know it as. -- 63.23.36.77 14:05, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps we could just note the multiple spellings in the intro to the article. --buck 14:38, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of his photo project?

[edit]

Curious why there is no mention of Günter's photo project. He is the photographer for the band. At one point he had plans on publishing a book of his photos from all their concerts. I was going to e in it :( I don't know what ever happened to that project.184.155.130.147 (talk) 03:57, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
