Choice of photograph

@Murgatroyd49: With [1], File:Cheltenham Flyer Swindon museum.jpg is a fairly low quality image from a decade ago, File:At Swindon Steam Railway Museum 2024 042.jpg is a new high resolution image taken with a standard lens (17mm), which is a Quality Image on Commons. There isn't much wide-angle distortion here. I uploaded a bunch more to commons:Category:GWR 4073 Class 4073 Caerphilly Castle at Swindon Steam Railway Museum, in case one of those might be a better fit? Thanks. 17mm lens on a 90D is quite a wide angle and your pictures do show a lot of distortion. I've an older 70D and seldom use anything shorter than a 24mm lens for this sort of work and even that can produce distortion. My preference is for around 30-35mm so the smokebox doesn't loom at you and the buffer beam doesn't appear to be bent back on the loco.

I've picked a different image from your selection which also doesn't have the distracting cab access ladder, though it is still a bit frontal but taken from that side you can't move any further sideways as I recall. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 20:38, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
